Default Oil filter thread on block what are these?

Relplaced oil and filter this morning discover these marks (around the hex shape in the center) having no other problems like oil spills or low oil pressure.

have you noticed on your cars too? Seems fractures or may be normal?

That does look like someone overtightened the thread adaptor for the filter. Strange for sure. Never seen that before.

I would not be worried about those lines, it seems like minor casting lines.

My real question is what kind of adapter is that, it does not look like factory piece. Also the block does not look like a traditional SBC oil filter mounting pad?

really doesn't it look like a factory piece??
It sound a little bit strange since I use stock filter delco pf52... Car is 95...

As a marer of fact I don't know if it is a factory piece or not

thanks for this bjankusky right a t first glance...

never noticed this and never know, I've made a search and the right adapted for my car should be this One
instead found anything about replacement pad...
the problem is that is pretty impossible to get in this adapter in that pad I think

I'm with this guy - there ain't nothing that looks unusual for an LTx adapter. I believe there are 3 for the LTx - very dependent upon the application.

You know what that looks like to me: at one time they had a locking star washer under the threaded adapter. If you ever put one on something then remove it, it leaves a similar pattern in the metal if it's not as hard as the star washer.

I would not worry about it. You haven't had any leaks, oil pressure, or other issues. The oil filter does not require much torque for proper mounting, so you should be fine. Going forward, you could check these marks at every oil change to be sure they are not getting bigger/worse.

Also, you are a very observant person.

I understand how that thought might occur to someone. But if that was the case, the marks would be spaced evenly like the teeth on a locking washer. These marks are not evenly spaced.

I've never put a star washer there, AFAIR it wasn't there, cause there's no clearence beetween hex and pad... Anyway i've just fill with new oil.... So i need to wait till next oil change to see there... I wouldn't discharge the oil in order to see the adapter

Does it leak any oil in the filter area? It looks normal.
