Thumping is when someone flies an airplane up across your flight path close enough that you fly through their slipstream, causing your airplane to 'thump' as it passes through. All I saw from the back seat of the S-3 was the plan form of the pictured jet as it streaked upward past our windscreen, followed by a 'thump'. The pilot of the bicentennial aircraft got a visit to the skipper's office since there was only one bird painted in those colors. Below average for head work.
