Default Help to identify this electronic component >

I have always wondered what the small electronic component shown in the photo below is.

There is also an identical component in the same location, but on the other side mounted next to the engine air filter intake ... (so, we actually have 2 of these)

Can anyone here help with this?

Thanks,
Ron

BTW ... This is a 2011 GS Coupe / A6

Doesn't look like an OEM part but not sure. What does the label on it say?

Try scanning the bar code with a phone app. May find out what it is anyway.

My guess, something special for the lighting system of your car,(running lights, side markers, headlights, directionals)..

Well, it's not aftermarket since I purchased the car new with 3 miles on it.

BlindSpot ... You sure about the Front Crash Sensor? ... I could believe that

dmaxx ....

Ok ... That confirms it.

And like I said, there are 2 of these (one on the left and one on the right of the engine air filter inlet)

I only needed to see the color of the safety tie. Ask any tech what orange means on an electrical sensor.

And, beside not hitting it with a hammer (good advice) do NOT unlpug it with the key on.

My 05 doesn't have them in that spot. That's why I didn't recognize them.

impact sensors for the Airbags. There are quite a few of them over the car.
Treat them as if they are radioactive uranium, don't touch, don't play.

On a 2011 there will be.

There should be 4 in the front alone - A left/right high (in the pic), and a left/right low, further in front at the front bumper guard. Because the car sits so low and is wedge shaped, sensors have to be available for a solid frontal impact (like hitting a brick wall), then the second set (one of which is in the pic) if the car is in a frontal accident where it "shovels" under a taller vehicle like a tall 4x4 or commercial truck. That's not taking into consideration the side impact sensors.

Again, anytime you see ORANGE in the security tie on the sensor, it is a SRS related circuit device.
