Looking to repair/replace stock heads. What aftermarket head options are available for LS7? What advantages do they provide over getting the stock heads fixed and ported? Any advice/recommendations appreciated. Thanks folks.
No need to go aftermarket castings, but it certainly can minimize downtime for some folks. What are your goals? Max effort build for 600+ rwhp...mild H/C build...or just address the heads?
Places like AHP though, have stock cores in house set up and ready to go....so no downtime issue there either. Read up on AHP's Moldstar90 (MS90) valve guides...best guide material out there IMO.
Tony Mamo is producing some huge gains with his version of TFS heads, which appear to flow outstanding.
Max effort with a mild cam lol.
Was looking into a Mamo MSD. Tell me more about the Mamo TFS heads please.
As funny as that sounds...his topend packages (TFS, MSD, Cam) are producing really good power (peak and under the curve) without having to go with some ridiculously large (undriveable) cam. His TFS heads are essentially castings made by TFS to his specs. He is also using roller rockers in his setups, which I like for max effort builds...basically his own flavor of YellaTerra rockers. Custom specs cams based on your goals/wants/needs.

Speaking of Mamo heads specifically. They provide greater flow with a smaller port, so the max potential is higher. They also eliminate the factory casting problems altogether vs potentially just resetting the clock on the reworked factory part.
I understand AHP has an excellent reputation for durability and performance with reworked stock castings, and if I had not been after a max effort combo, I would likely have chosen them.
I like to open track my car (Laguna Seca, Sears Point, Thunderhill), but also use it as a weekend enjoyment/stress reliever. I researched the LS7 head issue extensively, and determined there is a lot of unsupported rhetoric out there. People just relaying what they've heard or read, but with very little actual/specific details. However, that being said, there are enough instances that DO have supported documentation and facts that left me with the realization that its just too much of a crap shoot not to address the heads. Once I came to that realization, the next question was who to get the heads from. For me, American Heritage Performance ("AHP") was the answer. My choice was cemented after going back-and-forth for a week with Kohle (AHP owner, I believe) via email. I told him what my true intentions were with the car (2007 Z06) -- open track events, 1/2 top speed runs and weekend jaunts up & down the coast -- and most importantly, reliability. I usually short-shift (6250 RPM), but on rare occasions, might see 7000 RPM. He took all of that into consideration and gave me his honest opinion about what he would recommend for my application. He did NOT sell me on the highest priced options. I really appreciated him taking the time to respond to my questions, provide solid feedback and generally educate me. I appreciated it so much, I submitted my order! I'd bet if you contact him, tell him your honest goals with your car, he will help guide you to the proper heads for YOUR application -- even if it is not with American Heritage Performance (if, for some reason, his shop could not produce adequate heads for your needs).

Nothing bad with the stock heads.....just have someone that dose the LS7 head....AHP, MANO, are the best...I fixed the stock heads with 90 guides, BTR stage 3 cam, SS Ferrea valves, NW 102, BTR Ti valve spring set, MSD intake...
Made 572rwhp and 509 in Torque...Now that said, Mano can get more for sure.....but for local guys and I did the work I am happy with the money for HP....This was on a mustang dyno.....Just fix them and your good...............

Here's a shop that more than you have heard of. They kind of have one or two (sarcasm for those who live under a rock) 9 second Z's NA. RPM.. Race Proven Motorsports. Forum Sponsor. ...but slick *****'s fast times motors in the Ozark Mountains makes sick fast vettes too!!
Google.....Tony Mano
He is at the top of this stuff....then try AHP....American Heritage Performance....
You have to dig a little.........
I Know who Tony Mamo is LOL!
He did the MAMOFIED LS3 Heads & MAMOFIED FAST LS3 with Mid Length Runner Intake for my 690 HP Custom 396" Big Bore Engine.
Just poking at you a little after the 2nd MISSPELL in your post,
and providing some humor & publicity at the same time.
Ya, I get it.....I am not a secretary and I flunked typing....If I would have known how important and how much a keyboard was going to affect us 50 years ago when I was in public school......I would worked harder to get it.............
I may be selling my fixed, stock casting heads. They are milled .050", ported by Lingenfelter, Ferrea exhaust valves, and BTR .660 lift springs. Looking to go more aggressive and want to start with fresh castings. Made 600whp with a BTR stage 3 cam and Mamo MSD intake. Heads have, roughly, 6k miles on them. Mostly street driving.
