What works well with a C7? I've got an iPhone 8, and use it for Waze and iTunes in my car.
For iTunes, of course, it is not necessary to see the phone, but for Waze, I'd like to be able to easily view the screen.
Since I've only had my 2017 Z06 for a little over a week, I'm still a "baby" who is trying to learn everything he can about this wonderful vehicle, so I love coming to this forum for information and advice.
So . . . . . what do you recommend? Point me toward an iPhone holder that is easy to install, but keeps the phone in an easily visible location.
Wow I just bought a phone mount yesterday. Its called a Kenu Airframe+. It's $24.99 at Target but it is currently on sale for $19.99. I actually got the idea for it from another member on this forum. It clips on to the pop up door on the console that has the power plug under it. Then the phone sits between two spring loaded clamps. It is very sturdy and your phone sits at an angle similar to the passenger side handle next to it. Then you can actually angle it towards yourself. My phone is quite large and the only dash button that it partially blocks is the fan switch. So far I am very happy with it. I'll try to get some pictures of it clipped to the door without the phone and some pictures with the phone attached to it later today. Here is what it looks like.

I have only connected it for NAV. With Apple Play it displays on the cars large screen! Great, don't have to look at the phone. Verbal instructions come through the car's sound system! Not sure if it will display Waze screen? Around here not that useful.
I will not talk when driving the Vette! In fact I have my iPhone 7 set so it will not notify when I'm driving! Enough distraction trying to stay out or the way of folks who are on their phone, or worse texting!
I've tried many, and locked in on the Pearl Magnetic Mount as the best. It comes with both vent clip and permanent mount bases, but I use the vent clip on this one, which holds like alligator jaws with zero vibration.
It also rests beautifully on the dash trim ledge above the center screen, which provides extra stability, and looks like a factory installation. The holder keeps the phone about 1" above the center vent, so it doesn't block air circulation, only half the vent is covered, and it is still fully functional.
I love having it in line of sight and the two touch screens together. I also exclusively use Waze on iPhone, never the factory nav.
^^^ Hello, I just ordered this one. Thanks for the tip. BTW, I had a magnetic holder which I loved, except the car got hot sitting in the sun and the adhesive failed and the holder fell off. This new one that you recommended should be perfect.

Waze does not work w/ Apple Car Play, neither does Google Maps, and Apple Maps still sucks. It has sent me to more wrong places than I can count on 10 fingers. Apple Maps is far worse than the factory nav.
Moreover, nothing routes you around traffic jams better than Waze. That's a must in perennially gridlocked metro areas like Washington DC.
Apple seems to be falling behind; I'm a beta tester for Waze on android and they are coming out with more and more features for android auto, its great. Foosh is correct, waze is the way to go, carplay/android auto or mounting your phone is the safest bet.
Thanks for the tip on the pearl mount, that thing is quality.
They need to come out with the Waze on AA in phone only mode.
Personally I think Waze sucks and Google Maps is far superior.
Waze:
1. Alerts; Rarely get them - even when I can clearly see it on the map. Most times what they say is there isn't there. Can you say false sense of security - sure you can.
2. Waze does not tell me what lane I need to be in for an exit on multi-laned highway. GM does and it's very useful when when you got 7 lanes to cross...
3. Route display: Waze's is poor. You see 3 cards with a line below them and then their traffic/construction icons. No way to tell where exactly the traffic is along your route. With GM the map shrinks down and you see 3 different routes color coded for traffic and with an indication if it's 10 minutes slower or 4 minutes slower for routes B and C.
4. Really don't need Waze advertising to me to stop and get a burger at a red light...
Edit: Additional observations...
I just got back from driving from San Diego to Carmel for Tommy Emmanuel's Guitar Camp (with Joe Satriani holding his own camp at the same facility!). So I thought I'd run Waze one way and Google Maps the other way. Sorry to say but I had to stop using Waze! In addition to the above:
5. Does not apparently support multiple stops. So you're driving and say search for "Denny's nearby". It finds it and sets a route for the one you select - and then discards your current route! Just damn forgets it. I mean yes it's in a recents list but it did not add your stop at Denny's as an additional stop!
6. It draws a horrible map! When driving say on I-5 here in California, it'll zoom out which is OK. But the route drawn on the map then gets about 3 times thicker than when you are zoomed in and it looks like crap. Doesn't seem to zoom in properly when a turn is upcoming and if you zoom in to try to fix the too fat for it's own good line it'll just zoom out some time later.
7. I occasionally lose the route if I say stop at 7-11 and take my phone with me.
Even if CarPlay eventually becomes Waze compatible, I really love having two screens side-by-side at eye level, as pictured above. Having one exclusively for nav, and the OEM center screen for media/infotainment/vehicle settings is nice.
With the very secure Pearl mount, I'd probably stick w/ the two screens even if/when CarPlay mirroring of Waze becomes a reality.

I imagine Apple Maps works fine for rural SC. Just don't try it in the "big city."

Well, personally, I think you are wrong, and I'm far from alone. Waze has become the gold standard among smartphone nav users. Google purchased Waze for a reason.

Does the weight of the phone put any stress on the plastic fins of the air vent? (I don't want it to crack/break)
Also, from the photo it appears that the phone only blocks about 1/2 of the vent, so I'm hoping that on hot days with the air conditioning running, you still get cold air coming out past the phone?
No, not at all, and some of the weight is supported by the phone resting on the console trim ledge above the center screen and because of the geometry of the Pearl mount design. The Pearl baseplate that clamps to the vent fin fits flush against the vent supporting most of the weight. It doesn't move at all.
And yes, the way I mount it, the drivers side of the vent is still open with airflow directed at the driver's side. But since the phone stands off the entire vent by at least 1.5", almost none of the vent is actually blocked. The entire baseplate assembly is also off in 1 second, by pressing the button to release the vent clamp jaws, but I just leave it there because it's so small and stealthy.
