Default CAD Drawings - Real "Leak" or GM Controlled?

That looks 100% legit.
So, it this a leak, or an easter egg intentionally leaked from GM to create buzz ?????

Wrong. These leaks are not planned. I work for one of the big 3. We are continually told we will be fired immediatedly if info is tracked back to us. My co-worker got fired on the spot for posting info on a forum after a vehicle had been publicly announced. He commented about info he thought was in the announcement but was not official yet (optional equipment). I felt bad, he waited to talk about the vehicle at the time he felt it was appropriate but he lost his job anyway.

There’s know way to know but the account who posted this has no other posts and is actually named ZERV. So there’s a few possibilities: 1. A Corvette engineer is going to lose their job. 2. A Corvette engineer is getting a good laugh out of this. 3. These CAD files are fake or from a different car. 4. They really are creating buzz for a NAIAS debut. 5.These CAD files were being used in a presentation to dealers, higher-ups, or other important GM employees

I just did a reverse image search on these photos and found absolutely nothing like these, meaning that they’re either fakes that someone made at home or very real CAD drawings from GM.

Worth noting that these are pictures taken of a computer screen, not actual screenshots.

It would be safe to assume GM does not allow engineers to plug in thumb drives and save files on any computer containing classified info.

So if it were a legit GM employee creating a leak I would expect it to be a camera pic of a computer screen just like we see here.

I agree.

I'm not saying it's definitely the ME... Hell it might be the 2021 Fiero for all we know haha, but I would bet money that is not a "fake" image.

CAD is work and I reaaaaallllyyy can't imagine somebody spending that amount of time designing a "fake" engine let alone the front and rear suspension designs.

I mean if that's a fake image somebody seriously designed appropriate geometry for 1/2 a car just to F*^% with corvette forum members.

I believe it IS real but no telling what it is.

Or the engineer who leaked them is currently getting forcibly ejected from his office haha.

These look pretty legit, no way some rando cooked these up himself in CAD, way too detailed.

That's very possibly, but I don't think people are so willing to put their job on the line. Also a lot mags have said GM purposely puts stuff out and gets cars purposely "spied". But who knows right.

So someone is getting the axe right now, correct? I wish I understood these drawings, if this car doesn’t get unveiled at NAIAS, then we are in for a long wait before we get something this good again.

No way, this was very intentional. I really don’t believe someone would risk their job for a silly photo. As far 2018 reveal, sorry to break your heart but I extremely doubt that will happen.... almost certain. We are looking at a 2019 NAIAS reveal. These photos are interesting, hopefully a ramped up LT1 making 500hp. I was really hoping for a DOHC for the base model but I guess they will use those for the forced inductions models.

i'll start by saying these are fairly impressive and would be amazing to get our first glimpse at the mid engine vette...

however, there are other possible explanations for these...

students taking cad classes are tasked with projects that they can choose, and actually develop models of real life things or whatever...

i know that on the surface it appears to be very intricate and detailed, so much so that its very plausible this is a GM leak of some sorts.

BUT since we don't have the ACTUAL CAD files, we can't rotate the model, zoom in, or get any other sort of actual detail out of it that you would be able to with the real cad file.

i mean, there is always the possibility that someone made the image of the model with photoshop then took a pic with their phone.

the internet loves to play tricks on people, just amazing how fast this stuff spreads....

trust no one.

Yesterday’s GM CAD drawings were, just like the November 13, 2011 Jalopnik GM CAD drawings of the Z06, were not GM leaked! Lots of unhappiness within GM yesterday and today that they were.

For those who doubt that, ask yourself how come the two automotive media based in Detroit, has chosen not to include those drawings/info, when 8 national media have, so far, shared it.

There's a Ford engineer on this forum who has told me in NO uncertain terms that the car companies DO NOT leak info. And I still maintain they DO, these CAD shots are just ONE more example. Who, in their right mind, would jeopardize their JOB to share this with a bunch of people they don't know on the internet? Right....NO ONE.

It's like the now famous guys jumping out of the ME car to cover it....
Think about it: If they just keep on driving, the pictures get published, everyone says: "Cool, there's a mid engine Corvette". But let the guys STOP the car, frantically pull out the car cover....and NOW you get THOSE pictures published EVERYWHERE, not just enthusiast sites.
I love all this stuff and look forward to all new info, but this cloak and dagger stuff is kind of funny. In the end, I believe we see what GM wants us to see.
The "McDonalds" cars are proof...."Hey Frank, let's grab a Big Mac. OK George, 2 other guys want lunch too. Grab the keys to the mid-engine Corvettes, we'll take those."

They don't 'leak'. It's called building market anticipation and excitement.

It's all a part of marketing 101. When you walk into a show room, the salesman tries to get you to buy their product. That's sales.

What got you into the showroom in the first place is marketing.

For example, Harley-Davidson doesn't sell motorcycles. They sell a lifestyle. Their marketing tells you that the only way to get that lifestyle is to buy an HD motorcycle.

Ditto for beers, soft-drinks, clothes, etc.

I seriously doubt these were leaked by GM. CAD drawings are some of the last things I would put out to draw customers to buy the C8.

The C7 had very similar unintended leaks through its design process as well.

Especially when GM now has a new ZR1 and a 2019 model year that has not even started — a MY scheduled for production for a 13 month long time period.

Call it whatever you want. My point was that this was intentional.

That is not correct. You do not disclose detailed mechanical information to your competitors.

GM “unemployed” folks because of the previous/above-cited leaks.
