CAD Drawings - Real "Leak" or GM Controlled?
Popular Reply
GM doesn't really spend any money advertising its halo vehicle the corvette...most of it is performance or "leaked "info on the latest and greatest advancement or model...
The payback on the corvette really has never been profit per sale but rather the halo effect it shines on the entire GM corporation as cutting edge value best in the world...
At prices normal a,ericans can afford.,,
Wrong. These leaks are not planned. I work for one of the big 3. We are continually told we will be fired immediatedly if info is tracked back to us. My co-worker got fired on the spot for posting info on a forum after a vehicle had been publicly announced. He commented about info he thought was in the announcement but was not official yet (optional equipment). I felt bad, he waited to talk about the vehicle at the time he felt it was appropriate but he lost his job anyway.

It would be safe to assume GM does not allow engineers to plug in thumb drives and save files on any computer containing classified info.
So if it were a legit GM employee creating a leak I would expect it to be a camera pic of a computer screen just like we see here.
Just my .02
I'm not saying it's definitely the ME... Hell it might be the 2021 Fiero for all we know haha, but I would bet money that is not a "fake" image.
CAD is work and I reaaaaallllyyy can't imagine somebody spending that amount of time designing a "fake" engine let alone the front and rear suspension designs.
I mean if that's a fake image somebody seriously designed appropriate geometry for 1/2 a car just to F*^% with corvette forum members.
I believe it IS real but no telling what it is.
These look pretty legit, no way some rando cooked these up himself in CAD, way too detailed.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
however, there are other possible explanations for these...
students taking cad classes are tasked with projects that they can choose, and actually develop models of real life things or whatever...
i know that on the surface it appears to be very intricate and detailed, so much so that its very plausible this is a GM leak of some sorts.
BUT since we don't have the ACTUAL CAD files, we can't rotate the model, zoom in, or get any other sort of actual detail out of it that you would be able to with the real cad file.
i mean, there is always the possibility that someone made the image of the model with photoshop then took a pic with their phone.
the internet loves to play tricks on people, just amazing how fast this stuff spreads....
trust no one.

For those who doubt that, ask yourself how come the two automotive media based in Detroit, has chosen not to include those drawings/info, when 8 national media have, so far, shared it.

It's like the now famous guys jumping out of the ME car to cover it....
Think about it: If they just keep on driving, the pictures get published, everyone says: "Cool, there's a mid engine Corvette". But let the guys STOP the car, frantically pull out the car cover....and NOW you get THOSE pictures published EVERYWHERE, not just enthusiast sites.
I love all this stuff and look forward to all new info, but this cloak and dagger stuff is kind of funny. In the end, I believe we see what GM wants us to see.
The "McDonalds" cars are proof...."Hey Frank, let's grab a Big Mac. OK George, 2 other guys want lunch too. Grab the keys to the mid-engine Corvettes, we'll take those."

It's all a part of marketing 101. When you walk into a show room, the salesman tries to get you to buy their product. That's sales.
What got you into the showroom in the first place is marketing.
For example, Harley-Davidson doesn't sell motorcycles. They sell a lifestyle. Their marketing tells you that the only way to get that lifestyle is to buy an HD motorcycle.
Ditto for beers, soft-drinks, clothes, etc.

The C7 had very similar unintended leaks through its design process as well.
