Default Shifter **** removal, 2008

Good afternoon everyone! So I'm in the process of replacing radio, everything is going well except for removing the shifter ****. I've searched for days and there's a few great videos on yt, but mine is a little different, no screw on the side of shifter shaft etc.. 2008 base M6. Need to get the **** off to move the center console out of the way. Hope I don't have many grammatical errors... Lol...please forgive me! Sure someone has done similar..? Thanks everyone!

Can you take a picture of the shifter shaft? That's odd.

Did you move the leather boot down and out of the way? There should be a T-25 Torx screw at the bottom of the ****.

Thanks guys for the super quick replies, also forgot to say on the MGW shifter yt video, they say to rotate that chrome ring where the shifter boot comes in contact with, mine won't budge! I've even...hate to admit, but even tried carefully with a pair of channel locks, didn't move! Tried both CCW which is what MGW says, and looks simple on their video, guy did it with one hand...
thanks again everyone!

The chrome ring is to bring down the rest of the boot. You seem to have separated the chrome ring from the boot so I guess it doesn't matter.

I'm not entirely sure how that shift **** was attached. The screw is normally right below the shift ****. It doesn't look stock.

You're gonna have to separate it at the red line...somehow. The screw is under there.

The shifter is stock, had it since new, never changed and yes, correct, I didn't intend on moving the boot past that chrome ring and that was the exact video I watched but in the process of trying to rotate the ring, which isn't moving the boot has come down but will easily go back on. I know that chrome ring needs to unlock somehow and just wondering if any one else has experienced same issue?

I'm not sure what that "thing" is on the shifter (between the boot and the ring). Hopefully there is a small screw under that ring. Here is a look at the stock shifter.

Ok, so maybe in the future this will help someone else..I got that chrome ring off. It does rotate CCW. Mine from over the last ten years has just sorta stuck very tight. I used a really good paint scraper that I sharpened the blade really good, used it as a pry tool between the ring and shifter **** to just break it free. Then it rotated CCW with no issue! Putting the boot back on the ring was a piece of cake. Just glad I didn't damage the boot or the chrome ring! Now to move forward with the radio install! Thank you guys for your input!
