Love the look of modern offsets on a c3 but don't think its practical

I used 2 1/2 " on the rear of my 64 to put a set of thin spoke 8 1/2 " C-5 wheels on the back . Spacing worked out pretty well with the wider rear fenders. I put a bare wheel on a jack and rolled it in and out of the wheel well to figure out my spacing.
Will spacers pass tech for 1/4 or safe for road courses?
Anyone seen failures? Curious
spacers will pass, up to what thickness I don't know.
I would think not with an adapter, I could never use one.
Just mocking up for back space and flare fitment with the
Fred Flintstone adapters...

2.5" con-centric" adapters with C4 wheels, probable need 3" for C5.
if your gonna run adapters only use concentric adapters.
you will need to measure wheel backspace to determine exact fit.

Spacers it depends on how long your lugs are. You still need to have enough of the lug nut threaded onto the lug to be safe.
Adapters are different it that they bolt onto the original lugs and then have new lugs to fit the wheel onto. They can be as wide as needed.
I've been running the same set of 3" adapters on my 73 and 76 for close to 17 years now. My dad first put them on my(then his) 73 back around 97-98. We ran them for many years of just autocross use. I bought my 76 in 2006 and have swapped the adapters between the 73 and 76 many times depending on which car I was taking to the autocross. The motor blew up in the 73 around 2009. Since then the adapters have stayed on the 76.
I am just now beginning to get a little play in the bearings in the front of the 76. It may be as simple as tightening them up a bit. I will be looking into this in the spring when it gets warmer.
If you torque the adapters onto the car correctly, then there won't be an issue with them coming off.
Here is a picture of the adapters on the front of the car. These are VBP adapters that are hub-centric. This is from when i was installing the hookers.
You should just flip the center section on those CCW wheels and you probably wouldn’t need any spacers...

Also, invaluable for determining fit is identifying the stock wheel offset and tire size, which is different between generations, Z06 versus base model, etc.
