Leif, yes the nose need to have some work done. The holes will be re tapped and the emblem replaced. I was unaware of all the work to get the body on these ready for paint. The blocking alone between coats of Poly have been incredible. Finally ready to move to the next stage. Definitely glad I finally gave in and found a good shop to do this. Way beyond my capabilities.
I do have one question for the group, who should I go with for insurance? The car is now registered in the state of Washington as a collector car. It is still 8-10 months from being completed so I'm thinking I have some time here but my regular insurance company for vehicles is not really set up for this type of car. It will be garaged at my house and I will not put that many miles on it each year. I will transport it from time to time in my car hauler with one trip being back to Ohio (5k miles round trip). Do I need a separate rider for when it is in the trailer for transport? Any recommendations on the company and level of insurance I should carry?
I do have a question for the group about the title. So I have the original Yellow title. The car was purchased by my uncle in 67 new and then sold to my dad a year later as my uncle liked the 68 body style better. When I got this from my father he signed it over to me on the original title. Now that I have transported the car from Ohio to Washington State I need to register it here and I have been told they will take the original title and issue me a new one for Washington. Does anyone know if I can maintain possession of the original one? Will turning it over result in a depreciation of the value or linage of the car? Any advise here?
I would scan the original title and then tell the DMV that you lost that a long time ago but you have "copies" that they can use to issue you the new title. That way you get the keep the original
I was able to find a DMV office that let me keep the original title and just put a small 'Void' stamp in the lower corner. I now have this logged in the book that is being created as the restoration progresses. Thanks for the idea that was my plan B. :-)

Interesting way to go about restoration. Almost all of the ones I've seen involved separating the body and chassis first, then doing the body and paint. then the chassis and drivetrain is done and the two are married, and then final assembly. Those guys look like they know what they're doing. The only worries I would have with their method would be stressing the new finish while removing/flexing the finished body. You sure don't need any stress cracks in the paint in the end.
That said, I LOVE the color and finish on it.
amazing project.....if you would like this to be a sticky thread just say the word....
Thank you. It will be a couple months till the next update but that would be awesome. The motor and trans are next up. Should be done by May and then the chassis is set for a blast and power coating from Sept to Nov. Final assembly before Christmas. If all goes well.

Yes, that was the original schedule however due to the cost of the body work we had to change things up a little bit. The doors and hood are only on there now so i don't have to store them in blankets. When we do the split they will be removed and the body blocked up to prevent cracking, hopefully. These guys at Corvettes of Auburn are awesome and would have preferred to do it the way you described. But sometime they do switch it up and have had good success so far.

well just let me know...we can leave it as is or we can sticky this one or you can create a new thread with the pics as you go along....
I am always impressed with anyone who does this stuff as I don't think I could, parting out 2 cars was/is enough for me

I know everyone here enjoys following along too
Let's do it. I'm sure this will allow me to get some additional feedback (good and bad) and maybe help push someone else who is not a professional to pursue their dream of restoring one of these old girls. Also since I'm doing this in a little different fashion than desired I can at least share my story of what is working and what is not. She was so far gone when I pulled her out of the basement of our old slaughter house I originally thought it was too late to begin. But hearing from others and seeing some of the restores here changed my mind. Maybe this will change someone else's mind and save another car.
