Tossed the disk too because of this idea that it wouldn't be a good idea to get stopped with a bootleg disk.
I'm pretty sure a regular Joe Cop wouldn't know a bootleg navigation disk from a real one and if he put it in the unit, fired it up and it worked no differently from a real OEM disc, how in the world would he be able to say one way or the other if it was real or not?
"Well, son, you were going 10MPH over the limit but this time I'll let you go with just a warn... Wait a second! What's this? A GM nav unit in the car that needs to have the DVD in the unit to function? Hmmmm, you better eject that so I can see if it's a legitimate disc."
......Chevrolet has it's head in the sand with the price they want for these updated discs.
I don't think GM is the one making them or setting the price. It's a 3rd party company who makes and sells them. Like Helms making the service manuals, they set the price. Sure you might be able to buy them through GM but they outsource the discs.

I'm pretty sure you didn't have to toss it.
I'll admit to being paranoid about certain things, one of them being squeaky clean when dealing with US Customs and Immigration. Cars get searched on a random basis, and it's very easy to tell the difference between a commercially produced disk, and one that has been burned. Commercial disks are pressed and the backside looks quite different than one that's been burned.
What are the chances of the border services searching my NAV unit? Very low I'm sure. What might the penalty be for having counterfeit material? Slap on the wrist up to a nice fine and vehicle seizure. I'm sure I'll be getting some of this , but more than enough random bad crap seems to happen around me as it is.

First off the EULA on the disc itself allows you to make a copy of the original disc and use the copy instead of the original disc in the vehicle.
Secondly unless they have a warrant signed by a Judge that specifically states that one of the items they are searching your vehicle for is a pirated navigation disc they couldn't use it against you even if they found it and realized it was not a oem disc.
Thirdly the oem that makes the disc no longer offers them for sale that is for the C6 Corvette so how do we know these aren't excess inventory being dumped.

As for the reason that the cheap clone ebay disc does not work, bad burn or disc, bad iso image to start with, or someone forget to label the disco correctly instead.
Also, GM use safe disc copy right protection, so that could be part of the problem as well.
