Default Is Subman (Brad) still here? Amsoil?

I am getting a case of Amsoil and need to know what kind/weight?

San Diego (no cold freezing starts) DD & 2x month autox and maybe 6x yr track (think high desert temps).

Thanks anyone or Brad if you see this.

Not sure how often Brad is here, but I still order all of my oil supplies from him. He's absolutely fantastic to deal with and one of my favorite vendors.

PM Sent.

Would the Signature Series fit the bill? I wouldn't think moving up to racing oil is needed for a daily..and sig series is best you can go right?

I've been running Premium Protection in both my C5's for years with no issues and a clean bill of health from Blackstone Labs. Great stuff, but others or Brad will be able to suggest which weight to use for his car. I use 10W40 in both my cars, which isn't really enough for my 300F oil temps in the track car, but have an oil cooler waiting to be installed.

Signature Series does not come in 10w40. It does come in 10w30 though. It is a very good oil for your use froggy.

I run Premium Protection 10w40 in my C6Z that is raced. It has more ZDDP. 1265 ppm phophorus, 1378 ppm zinc, HTHS of 4.3 which is almost as high as M1 15w50 but obtained with lower viscosity. Viscosity of 14.6 at 212F. I am a dealer for Brad and for Amsoil and can help if you need any.

You're absolutely right. I just order through Brad and send him quick emails. The Signature Series was used in my old track car with an oil cooler (BRZ), but both my C5's run Premium Protection 10W40. Thanks for the correction.

So what you use is not for an occasional track day & the higher elements probably bad for the cats?

My motor is highly modified with different bearing clearances. It also sees sustained temps much higher than the street, has extremely stiff valve springs and sees sustained high RPMS. So I want the heavier weight, detergents and higher ZDDP (which assists with anti-wear).

That said, I have never seen evidence of ZDDP destroying cats in short order. There are some long term studies of reduced efficiency after something like 100k miles. And the ZDDP levels of Premium Protection are not abnormally high. The API SN standards, in my opinion, are arbitrary. . An oil's ZDDP maximum ppm content should be decided by the NOACK Volatility test (percentage) as opposed to some arbitrary phosohorous ppm cap for all lubricants that API uses. Put it another way, an oil with a high NOACK (>15%) and lower ZDDP could be more harmful to the cats that an oil with a low NOACK and high ZDDP.

In any event, for what I know about your car and it's usage I would suggest Signature Series 10w30 or 5w30.

Signature 5w30: 10.3 cSt at 212 F. 59.7 cSt at 104 F. NOACK volatility of 6.7%. Which is all about perfect for your use. If you end up tracking your car more often and see higher oil temps (>260 degrees) then I would suggest Premium 10w40.

I am an AMSOIL dealer under Brad, and I would recommend the 10W-40 Premium Protection also for dual duty. We use it in my Dad's '02. It may have some long term effects on the cats and O2 sensors, but it would be after many many miles of use.

Thanks all you guys, we may be down to "splitting hairs" as either 10w-40 premium or Sig 5w30/Sig 10w30 is "best".

I used to stay away fro multi weights with low cold weights as I had no cold starts, but that may be dated thinking.

Now with 0 wgt's being so commonly recommended for new(er) cars.

I suppose it makes for almost instant oil pressure as is easy to pump up?

Thanks! Great discussion.

PS with stock 2013 c6z cooling plus running desert track (socal) I would almost certainly expect to be at/over 260F on tracks.
