Where the vin is stamped on the frame, did GM use a capitol i for the number one and a small circle for 9? I got to thinking that mine may have had a hit in the rear as well as the front, though minor, and decided to check my frame. The numbers match but the one looks like an I and the 9 is a small circle.

Thanks. I found that I was used for 1 but the small o is where 9 should be and wasn't sure if it didn't get stamped hard enough or they used a different font.
I also have a '65 and can't find the frame VIN#. Surface rust may also be to blame. I lightly cleaned, still can't find it. Can you show me where on the frame
yours was found? I think I was looking to far towards the front of the rear wheel well. a photo from the side might help me locate the correct area. Thx, Sully
Mine was right at the rear body mount. Started a couple inches before and finished just behind the start of the mount about 1/4" from the outside of the frame on the top. I took a bucket of water and a green pad to wipe all the initial dirt off. I then took some 200 grit paper and sanded by hand a little bit. Cleaned it off and was able to read it with a 1-1/4" inspection mirror. The number is on top of the frame where the blue tape is. I think a 1" mirror may be easier to use. I also taped a piece of sandpaper to a thin piece of flat strap to get behind the body mount. The sandpaper made the difference. Hope this helps.

Did this on my phone and the text size got all goofy trying to edit so I will add that this is on a 67 and I am not sure if 65 is the same. I was also told you could rub chalk over the stamping to see it better.
