thanks everyone. I guess I don't mind not having the "feel" of the clutch and would probably go with an A8. If I did I would end up getting a GMEPP. the 2014's are a consideration as well but I do want a warranty so would have to look into it more. Also I've been seeing 2014's still nearly 40k while I could probably find a newer one for only a few grand more. I don't really need many options except for the NPP exhaust
More issues with the A8 than there should be for sure, but I have been very fortunate in that I have over 112,000 on my A8 and it is the best performing automatic I have owned. Trouble free, and I drive it hard, and I mean real hard!

Me to 43,000 miles and I track it every chance I get .....
and I might just keep it in paddle shifter mode which should avoid V4 haha
absolutely 100 percent not ...does nothing but trick the ECM into thinking AFM is not needed . and if you are worried ... just unplug it , throw it in the glove box, before taking the car In for service
I briefly owned a manual C7 a while ago, but am thinking of getting a new or slightly used C7 A8 this coming spring
But from all I have been reading everyone says stay away. I can drive a stick still but was going to use as a daily driver in traffic so wanted the A8
am I crazy to still consider one? I know I will have a warranty... but what if it keeps coming back? I haven't seen a permanent fix, the new fluid seems good for some but not all. if I get a new one of course i'll have lemon law protection but not a used one (would probably find a private seller)
the C8 seems great but don't want to be a beta tester for full sticker price
I bought a new Camaro years ago with an automatic for the same reason...got tired of shifting in my daily commute. Regretted it not long after and have owned nothing but manuals since (also in our family vehicles) with a 78 C3 4-speed, 98 C5 6-speed, and for the last month a 2019 C7 7-speed. You won't regret it if you decide to go with the M7. Good luck!
I have both, the a8 is fine but the afm is noticeable at times when it shifts but is not bad. I will get a range device for it. Out of the 2, the m7 is more fun and has a better feel to me. I drive it in traffic often and it's not bad. If I had a choice it would be m7.

I love my M7, but mine is a weekend toy. I wouldn’t want to drive a manual in traffic every day.
Buy a 3 or 4 year old car with an A8. If you don’t like it, sell it. At 4 years old, it’s out of the steepest part of the depreciation curve.
p.s. I reread the title and realize that you want a “new” C7. Just go get one. They seem to have it all worked out now. If you get a lemon, there’s a warrantee and lawyers. Life is too short. Get what you want (as long as you live within your means )
While I really enjoy the manual, I’m sure there’s quite a bit of fun to be had with the “point and blast off”, so to speak, of a hi HP hi TQ auto. Floor it and hold on!

To those that say it's only 5% that have shudder issues but their A8 us fine.........if I put 10 m&m's in a jar and two of them are poison......would you still grab a handful?
The shudder is not the reason for being cautious.....it's GM's handling of it and the poor customer service that should scare the **** out of you.

You need to work on your percentages 😄. But I happily own an M7👍🏻

GM's crappy service was because they had no idea how to fix it and dealers ended up breaking more stuff in the process .. now that the fix is well documented, and almost all the dealers know about the fix ... yes I would stick my hand in the cup and grab an m&m first off because the odds are slim that I am going to be poisoned and if I am the antidote is close by ...
Every car from every manufacturer has its issues , some way worse than the A8 trans shudder , does that mean you are never buying another car ...
Patman, 2,500 HD, great feedback , it's only because we hear about the folks that are having problems that everybody thinks every A8 is garbage , with as many A8's that are in service across the GM line I am sure that the vast majority are fine
The same thing happened when the A6 was released all you heard about were the problems . Shift Flair , blown seals , rough shifts and everybody was saying the A6 was junk .... now we have folks saying get the A6 its bullet proof..... once GM worked thru the bugs it is now bullit proof
The A8 is holding up in cars that are pushing 800 HP and yet you get the few that are still saying its junk get a stick . Lol lol
Right , get a stick because there are no problems with them .. sticking clutch pedals , dirty fluid that needs to be flushed , throw out bearings going bad , stiff shifter mechanisms ...... no problems at all lol lol
If its mechanical, it will have its issues no matter what it is

I would not hesitate to by an a8. My 2015 a8 has 35000 miles on it and I got a lot of seat time in it yesterday in horrible traffic, even though I prefer my stick car for fun factor, if I was doing stop and go crawling traffic everyday I would go a8. Yesterday's ride convinced me the a8 can still be fun and comfortable at the same time. I have an extended warranty just in case but so far no shudder or other issues with it.
