Painted became popular when the industry was faced with high costs associated with new environmental rules regarding chroming. Black wheels are a result of economy more than age or whatever. I tried to like them but they always remind me of a 70's police cruiser.
I outgrew chrome after my C6. II outgrew black after my C7. Have Spectra Gray Tridents on my C8. I'm totally done with both chrome and black wheels.
Had OEM Black wheels on my 2014 C7 Z51. Got old "on me" after a few years. Also ordered Spectra Gray Tridents for my 2020 C8. Great wheel.
Yep, thought the OEM QX1 Gray wheels looked great with my Yellow C6. Could also have looked good with my Cacti E-Ray if available (TPW 2/12/2024.) But very happy with Pearl Nickel.
Why not run both? 😁
I like the silver wheels, and since I’ve got a non-Z51, I’ll run the all season tires from about Oct-March and then I bought a set of the carbon flash wheels w/Z51 tires that I’ll run during the summer months. Variety is the spice of life, so why not keep both?
I think it depends on the color of the car, stripes, and trimwork. Either chrome or black are not right for every car. Likewise not every car looks good with every color. On darker cars I tend to like bright wheels, on lighter cars black. What I have noticed is on C8, bright wheels tend to give the car a more conservative, touring, kind of older guy look. Black wheels give you a more aggressive, racing style look. Personally I like a more aggressive look, but what matters is what you like, not what others think.
Here are a few of my car. It's a 2023 with MRR F25 (stock sizes in satin carbon flash). I was kind of like you when I got my car last September where the silver wheels were growing on me. However, as soon as I mounted these MRRs I quickly changed my mind. Black on red is a great combo.
I have since replaced the gray center caps with black OEM ones.

Never been a fan of black wheels. My 23 Honda Type R came with them stock and they do nothing for the appearance of the car.
They look great on Championship White Type Rs or white cars in general. Black wheels are terrible on red or dark blue--basically any color that isn't white or yellow. Last few sets of wheels I got for my 2018 FK8 were matte black 18" x 9.5"--the "correct" size! lol. The optional OEM Honda forged wheels for the FL5 look pretty great IMO--stock size 19" x 9.5" but they are almost like an anthracite. I think they are $650 each at dealer
thanks for clearing that up!! lol.....Chrome is an old man's choice IMO. But at the end of the day, why would anyone care what anyone else thinks, as long as you like it...
Black chrome is far, FAR superior to gloss black. I went with gunmetal on the Volk's I had on my old ride.
IMHO, wheels are overstyled and overdone these days--so the lighter the spoke color...the worse the effect is. I've taking a liking to color masking wheels--where the wheel is blacked out except for the few structural parts that are chosent to be highlighted...which are then left unpainted or painted in a lighter, accent color. Not only does this visually simplify the wheel--making it more appealing--but it also creates an entirely new realm of possibilities of looks.
Hello Carlos, I am considering these for my new CFM HTC Stingray in ceramic polish with clear coat. Do you have any pictures or renderings of this combination?
Here you go, the set we did on that red car had to get ceramic coated before we did the black chrome tint. so that allowed us to have pics of both finishes. Here are the images of the ceramic polish F25 wheels
