What did you do to your C5 today?
What I have on my Z06, the Borla Stainless "Xpipe".. which is two bent 2.5" pipes welded at a point to merge with each other.
Clearly no where near an X so makes me wonder if there's a power loss here but as mentioned the sound would be different. Still better than the factory Hpipe with a rusted out baffle that for some reason exists in it. Defeats the purpose of the Hpipe.
My Monte SS, dual 3" with a Summit Xpipe kit welded in. Been like this since I built the car in 2010. That's an Xpipe.

also plan on getting my wideband and boost gauge done tomorrow finally

What are you going to name it?
I didn't knew there was a check valve along with this pipe.

Space/pipe layout: Old muscle cars had pipe layout spaces apart so the X had to be severe angles.
Cost/manufacturing process: The stamped X's i'm sure are good for mass production.
Performance
I have been told that there IS an optimal cross sectional area that nets the best gains. I'm not sure what it is exactly but I'm sure it's a simple calculation.
I'm curious at which point of cross sectional area increase does the merge become a large H or a chamber?

This style to me is more of a chamber or a big H. These are super cheap
The largest cross sectional area of an X will be when you section the pipes at the centerline of each pipe and therefore the theoretical cross area = 1x pipe diameter.
These need length to make them work due to the slow merge angles. I actually made one of these for my C5 from scratch.
I initially used a generic X pipe and cut the ends to have the proper centerline of stock midpipe.
The last system I made used a stock 6th Gen Camaro 3" X pipe section. While it is a stamped version, it does noticeably have a X design and not just a chamber.
Food for thought, the C6Z uses a 3" H pipe.
C7 has a stock 3" x pipe. Maybe because of the different LT1 tone:
And then there is the location topic....how far down the the system do you put the X?
The Z pipe and Borla spaghetti x pipe is getting some traction. I'd be curious to hear one in person.

I wonder if there is more science to an X running air pulses against or across one another vs the Oval / near parallel where they just rub elbows to equalize as they pass down the pipe.
I can probably look it up, but I am also curious about the surface area of the Oval in general vs the X styles at the crossover plane where they exchange exhaust. Does it matter? Does it not? This in terms of power moreso than the sound behind the car.

The Spintech mufflers have shipped. Should give me something to do next week.
