You probably dont need it unless you add an electric fan or gobs of stereo.
Works real good with my Mark VIII fan set-up. Got the V pulley spun on with an impact wrench so no issue there.
You may have to add a resistor or light bulb to wire it properly. Do a search on CS144 and youll find the link I posted to wire it up.
You might want to upgrade your wiring from the BAT+ post of the CS144 to the BAT terminal of your starter as well to handle any additional current draw your add on items might pull.

Yep, love it...
I installed a new one that I got from autozone. It was catagorized for the 1993-96 Impala SS. No alterations needed except for the wire adapter for the change in the plug style. I love it and it was an easy install and a great upgrade. I'd do it again in a second...

GREAT upgrade. Would do again. I bought mine from these people, they will also supply you with an adaptor with or without the resistor.

Yes, but that's what voltmeters are for.....
and second off, any heavy draw device, such as Spal cooling fans...wire the main power to the control relay through it's own fuse directly off the back of the alternator.....do that no matter what alt you are using.....
same for high power lights, etc.....

Have one for some years now. Installed it to support electric fans, brighter headlights (relayed them) and electric headlight motors.
Bought a plug for it from a forum member

Have mine for about 10 years now and bought it from them ^^^^^^^^^^^^
Bought the adapter plug from these folks as well for about $6 at the time. GREAT upgrade since the CS-144 140 amp alternator charges like a champ at idle. I bought mine for the fast charge at idle AND for my 4 Hella Euro Lense Halogen headlights (from the 80's I put them on) that draw 320 watts on high beam with all 4 lights on.....old technology now but not switching to LED bulbs since don't drive the C3 much at night anymore..............

I ended up running a 2 watt resistor which I believe was double the calculated rating. (Before that I had a 1/2 watt and it worked but general feeling was it was on the border as far as power handling)
"Lionel" will set you straight but there's not a lot of draw through there so it doesn't take much

100 ohms, 5W is what I used. It should see no more than about 1.5W or power with the key on and engine off. It was a quality resistor too.
You have to keep the resistance within a certain range but the wattage could be as high as you wanted. I think the range is around 50 ohms to 250 ohms or something like that.
