I was on my way to work today and had a problem with my transmission. I have a 2008 auto with 3800 miles. I have been very easy on the driving and rarely use the paddle shifters. While I was driving in town I noticed the engine revs go up and the gear dropped into 1st. I always drive in the sport mode but allow the car to do the shifting most of the time. I tried to get the car out of 1st gear by using the paddle shifters and also putting the shifter into Drive (full auto) mode. When it would not shift out of 1st gear I then stopped the car and put it into park. Then I put it back into full auto mode and it still would not shift out of 1st gear. The check engine light came when this first happened. I was able to go into reverse gear and back into drive or sport mode with no problems... it just would not shift into the upper gears. I parked the car and waited for an hour to call the dealership when it opened and they told me they would send a wrecker to haul the car in for service. When I heard this I thought I would try again to get the car to shift normally... ( I really did not want to have my car towed in for service )...
I started the car and slowly began to move and noticed the engine light was still on but the transmission was shifting normally. I was able to drive to the dealership without futher incident but wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem?
This sounds like an internal sensor failure in the transmission, and a very uncommon one at that. I would hope GM gives you a new A6 and gives yours back to the design engineers. Good luck.
