Just spent most of my time the past several years on the C-2 Forum with a Grand Sport I built and recently sold.

For my current project I purchased a 71 all original small block coupe, 82K original miles from a neighbor which I will modify to look similar to the L-88 cars of the past with many modifications.

If you a purist going further may cause heart failure. The car is a rust free, no hit survivor car, heck the original radio and clock still work and headlight buckets that work like they were still brand new. But all of that will go. Jeff Leech from Mid America Industries (309) 787-5119 is going to mod the car using molds from one of the Owens Corning Cars for the flares and “69” front louvers. He is going to use his GS tube chassis that I had under my GS and mod it just a little to fit under my car and to position the fuel cell. This will also allow me to lwr the floor pans by 2-3 inches giving me the needed head room for the roll cage and good seats. It will have 95 Corvette suspension, Dana 44 rear, current plan is a LS3/515 hp carbureted motor hooked up to a TKO 600. Team III mini lite look a likes 17 or 18 inch wheels with 275 front and 315 0r 335 rears. As the build progresses I plan on posting the build pics on the photo bucket site above. Currently, the project its just getting stripped and ready for it flares which will arrive the second week in Feb. I plan on getting it back as a roller the end of March where the drive train, wiring, paint etc will be done.

As mentioned, I will be parting out the car to include the headlight buckets, the original working A/C and heater diffuser box as a unit, the rolling chassis (frame and suspension), the tires and wheels, engine and trans, radiator and fuel tank. The seats will also be going and the current plan is to mod the dash so the dash and all the gauges will be going as well but I may keep the dash.. just not sure.

That's a very nice Grand Sport you built!
I'll look foward to following this build as you progress. I have a soft spot for the "road race" early C3s.

By the way the build ALWAYS takes longer than you hope for........and costs more than you plan for too.

Other than the fact, that I am disappointed to see a survivor car get parted out, I'm curious why you are not using a convertible as a starting point? Your GS is beautiful and I look forward to seeing this project move forward.

wish it were a rough '69 and not a nice looking '71 Steel Cities Gray that's gonna lose its louvers. That GS is a beauty.

If it turns out as nice as the Grand Sport, you will definitely have a killer ride. I too hate to see a nice original one get cut up, but it's your car and as you've already decided, yours to do with what you wish!

Man that's a nice SCG. I hate to see it chopped up, even if the reincarnation will be as badass as the GS. Here's one person hoping that you change your mind and find an older convertible to move forward since it sounds like the only thing that will be original when done may be the birdcage and most of the body.

Thanks for the comments,. I went with this car because I got it for a great price, its rust free to include the bird cage with an interior I plan on using and very straight. Heck the owner only put 2k on it in the past 15 yrs. Additionally I know I will get a good price for the parts.

Fair question about the flares. I am getting them from Jeff Freeman from "Form of Expressions" and he relayed the mold was taken from one of the Owens Corning "team" cars.

I have a few pics of the Owens Corning cars dash but would like to know if anyone has some close ups of their dash and other similar setups. I have decided to replicate their dash and remove the original one.
