Default Head-scratcher..."opening the door while engine running"...

Sometimes it works...sometimes it doesn't. ???

Here's the scenario - I pull up to my shop doors, pull handbrake & put car in neutral...sometimes (but only sometimes) I can open the driver's door with the button on the door-pull handle...but other times it won't open, and I'll have to reach down and pull the mechanical door release on the floor.

I've tried all iterations of "neutral", "handbrake", "foot on/off brake pedal", "clutch down / up", and there is no common combination that will always allow me to open the door...it's just really random as to whether it'll open or not.

Baffled.

"Just get a garage-door-opener"...not a good answer as I've got a lift on one bay, and overhead stuff on the other...and it's somehow theraputic opening my own damn garage door.

i always seem to have issues with people opening the passenger door from the outside...but for some reason, its "smoother" when the windows are opened to any extent...its almost as if the window indexing causes the "difficulty" of opening the door...

wish i could help you with your issue...maybe try with the window down to see if that helps?

Have you tried pushing the unlock button before the mechanical release?

I know in my A4 the shifter needs to be in Park or Neutral for the door to open.

In a similar scenario I just hit the unlock button on the driver's door.

Well the important question is... why would you ever want to leave your Corvette at all?

happened to me today...passenger side wouldn't open. Car running, dropping a co-worker off at the office. Put in neutral and while I am applying regular brake...passenger would not open.

Hit unlock a few times, still wouldn't open.

Put on emergency brake and hit unlock....still wouldn't open.

He HAD to use the mechanical unlock. WTF ! ?

Doesn't sound safe....shouldn't be that difficult to get out.

Your doors are automatically locking when you move forward. Just need to hit the unlock button.

Is it that hard to push past R and into P? You really want to leave it in neutral with the e-brake on?

Besides that you didn't hit unlock. Pretty important when trying to open doors.

If I'm interpreting the Owner's Manual correctly (page 3-74), you need to turn 'Auto Unlock' off using the DIC, otherwise you have to turn off the ignition or put it in RAP if you have a manual tranny, those of us with autos just have to shift to park.
