Default Hertz rents 1963 Corvettes

Hello, I own a 1963 all original white split window with red interior. The car has lots of great documentation including bill of sale, protect-o-plate, dealer order form etc.

The car was sold new (along with several others) by a Chevrolet dealer in Denver,Co. to the Hertz Rental Car Corp. The cars were all 250 hp, autos and were out-fitted with snow tires and ski racks.

I am trying to get some add'l info on these cars and a copy of the ad that Hertz apparently ran showing these Corvettes ready to hit the slopes with a young couple.

Any help, info, etc. would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks, moonframer

Um - I may be mistaken but I was under the impression Protect-o-plates didn't start until 1965......

Would like to see that Hertz ad. Sounds like either a single franchisee's program, or maybe it was a test-market for the Hertz Sports Car club that would offer Shelby GT350s three years later. Hertz had to guarantee purchase of something like 1000 cars, and the Shelbys came in auto OR stick, as I recall.

Without a history of multi-Corvette purchases like the Shriners, I find it hard to believe that more than one Sting Ray would be allotted to any single customer. Now IF Hertz headquarters was involved directly, they probably bought enough Impalas to go to the head of the line.

Otherwise I can't see this happening in the period from fall 1962 introduction 'til after the snow had melted. There was just too much demand for those futuristic sports cars!

Sorry for not being more specific. You are correct that the actual plate version of the warranty program started in 65. What my car has is the GM warranty booklet with all the info. on the car.

I've only seen one (1) '63 that is known to be a Hertz car and it is also White/Red 250hp Auto. It is #13,114 - is this the same Coupe?

My understanding is that there were 8 -10 '63 Shriner cars but I've never seen any documentation showing the vin numbers or if they were built in sequence.
Anyone own one of the '63 Silver Shriner cars?

you got me.. The actual plate in the rear of the Chevrolet Owner Protection Plan booklet did not exist until the 1965 models. It was basically the same warranty booklet that identifies the owner, address, vin. no.,engine number, etc. I don't see a lot of 63 Vettes with these booklets. Nice piece of documentation.

That's not surprising that they rented them. They rent new ones, and have in the past rented Boss mustangs, Hurst Olds's, etc. What was it that was black and gold??? Only at Hertz.

I have that car with that vin # 13,114. It was definitely ordered by Hertz from a Denver,Co. Chevrolet dealer. I have the commercial order form and the warranty booklet that was assigned to Hertz Corp. as the owner.
