well... there was no LT1 in 1969. There was the base 350/ 300 hp and the next step up 350/ 350 hp then the big block cars. 1970 was the first year the LT1 was offered and it was discontinued after 1972.

There were two 350 hp 350 cars that were converted by dealers before the sale. They were documented by magazine articles but, were not factory delivered cars. Only differences between the LT-1 and the 350 hp 350 engine as camshaft, lifters, intake and carb.

The 350/350 was the L-46, and it was a really nice engine. It was very similar to the build of the LT-1 with 11:1 compression, but with hydraulic lifters (I think) and a little bit milder cam. GM thought about releasing the LT-1 in 1969, but I don't think they could get all the EPA/government "hurdles" jumped in time.

Two '69 LT-1 engines were built and tested. None were ever built into cars and sold in 1969.

mrh747: what are the numbers stamped on the pad on the block at the front of the passenger's head?

Car Life magazine ran a article with every combo available in 69. The LT-1 they tested was dealership built using the parts from the Z-28, cam, lifters, intake and carb as stated above.

There was a short block exchange according to owner.
Plus I found this topic covered in length on another thread on C3 forum.
Thanks for your imput. Looks like home modification. Now has a 350/370, 5 SPd
Nice looking, red on red vert.
Will most likely keep looking.

According to Duntov in the Car Life issue that MelWff referenced, the LT-1 used the same intake, carb, etc. as the 69 Z-28. The demand was so high for the Z-28, that Chevrolet didn't have enough capacity to provide parts to build both the Z-28 DZ 302 and the Corvette LT-1. It was decided that they could sell more Z-28's, than LT-1 Corvettes, so the LT-1 was postponed the LT-1 till 70, when they could gear up to make enough parts.

1969 lt-1
There were two 1969 Corvettes with LT-1 engines installed in them and used for the 1970 long lead press review. Neither of these cars had factory installed LT-1s. One of these cars was subsequently sold through Clippinger Chevrolet with the non-stock LT-1 in it and with a full new car warranty. There are photos of record of this car and the gentleman who purchased it.
