I ran over a piece of a tire on the way home
today. Looked like a truck retread piece.
It was pretty large and I had to center it
under my car. Fairly loud, I was doing about
60mph.
So far no leakage, vibration or obviuos
damage. Can these cars take it? Is the undercarriage
fairly well protected?
On my way home from Kentucky I hit a dead animal (too foggy to see it in time) and two blown out tires. One got tossed up pretty good and almost smacked my dad riding his bike behind me. No damage done. The undercarriage is very well protected. If you haven't seen anything yet I wouldn't sweat it.
There is a power steering line routed down in front of the cross member that seemed vulnerable to me. I formed and installed a piece of steel band in front of the line. Overkill, maybe, but it made me feel better. Thankfully it hasn't been "tested" yet.

Hit a "road 'gator" a couple of years ago with my C5 out on the interstate. It went under the car, got hit by the right rear wheel and literally blew out the rear inner fender. Cost me $700 to fix.

That's a Great idea IMO
I'll be doing that to mine too now that you posted that picture
I left Florida at 1am to avoid the lovebugs, then realized that I could not see
"road gators" in time when it's dark.
Very lucky, I just missed a huge one, whole truck tire!
It would have distroyed my front end.

Great preventative action to take. I have not paid too much attention to vulnerable parts in that area. I think that I will fabricate a similar piece. Thanks for the tip!
I ran over a piece of plywood one dark night heading home on the highway at normal highway speeds. By the time I saw the wood in the road it was too late. Sounded horrible, but after checking everything out after I got home - no damage to anything. That was over a year ago.

Just got hit by a flying Road-Gator with 450 miles left on my 4254 mile road trip. Almost made it without a single issue. Pickup in front of me ran it over and flung it up in the air. No time to do anything, on my part. However, there was no one in front of him 😡. Too busy texting, I suppose. Anyways, it smacked me at 80 mph right in the drivers side bumper, nose and headlight. Good thing it was day time. It would’ve ripped the headlight right off, if it were up. Lots of hot, melted rubber marks on my car now. Just a couple scratches but.. damn-it!!! Now I’m looking to see what to use and how to get this stuff my car.
it is what it is. I drive my cars and this is the unfortunate byproduct of doing so. I just wish people would pay more attention. 😡💀.
anyone have any ideas on getting this rubber off. I’m thinking of the mother’s stuff for getting burn-out rubber from the drag strip off your quarter panels. Anyone used this before?
