Default C-5 Recommended Tires

I have one owner C-5 convertible that has 9,000 miles on the original Goodyear Run Flats, and the car is ready for new tires. It seems like most posts I see recommend the Michelin Pilots. Would appreciate any input you can offer. I would like to stay with run flats. Car is driven about 600 miles per year. I will be keeping this car for a second driver for life. Car is pristine.

Thank you,

Gary D.

Assuming that you won't need "all season" tires, yes, the Michelin Pilot ZPs would be a good choice. I just put a set of them on my car, and I'm pleased.

Love my Michelin run flats...
BUT

It seems you can get a better deal and ride with non run flats..
Just need a 12v compressor and slime....
The tires should be changed every 5 years not decade.
IMHO

Are they run flats? How about the noise level? I only drive in dry summer conditions.

Thank you.

Unless you have DEEP pockets.... stay away from Michelins....

Hankook and Nitto makes a REALLY good tire with very little road noise.

Nitto Invos. Excellent ride and low noise even with larger 18/19 wheels. Decent at the track but maybe a little soft in the sidewall.

Yes, Michelin makes a "summer" run flat. Noise isn't too bad, but I can't compare to the OE GoodYears, because I replaced them on my car, a LONG time ago.

I just today installed four Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus ZP run flat tires on my 50th Anniversary Special Edition. $1221.87 out the door at Discount Tires in Las Cruces, NM. Cannot believe how much more quiet they are than the OEM Goodyears. I am happy.

In your case, I would go with the original equipment Goodyear Runflats. You drive very little and your car is in showroom condition so you might as well keep it the way it came from the factory.
Now if you drove it a lot I would go with non run flats. I love my Bridgestone Potenzas.

I'm running Hankook Ventus V12 EVOs on my car. Love the ride, handling and low road noise as well as they only cost about $650 for the set.

To the OP - With the Michelins, ZP means Zero Pressure or run flat, A/S is the all season designation. The ones without A/S are the summer tires.

However, no more than you plan to drive your car, I wonder about investing that much money in tires.

don't buy all season tires if you don't need them for bad weather

run flats in general are more noisy than non runflats

not that many choices in c5 size run flats

you could get another set of OEM tires but they are probably as much as the better michelin

Good point. I have thought the same thing. I intend to keep and store the original tires as someone down the road might think that is kind of cool when they inherit the car. Thanks for your input.

I think that is the choice. I will check pricing and the price will probably make my decision.

Thanks for the input.

Don't know if the PS2 ZPs are still sold by Michelin (they were the softer "summer" tire years ago). They gripped a lot better than the AS ZPs that I now have on my 50th Anniversary. Depending on how late in the season that you intend to be on the road is something to consider. The PS2s, or their replacements (I'm guessing here) will not perform as well in the cold. Good luck

Strictly a summer car. I have some homework to do. Thanks again.

Had these tires installed 3 years ago and no regrets. While your at it recommend replacing all the TPMS sensors.

Ditch the old Goodyears.

One or more of my sensors are bad so I am going to have those replaced. I always had tire pressure problems with the Goodyears and had to adjust pressure almost every time I took the car out. You have me convinced to go with the AS plus ZP's.

Thanks.

Check out pricing for both the tire package and sensors with forum vendor Tire Rack. They had very competitive pricing when I was purchasing.
