Default So are you having a mid-life crisis or do you just enjoy driving a performance car?

Saw this article entitled, "7 Things Never To Say To A Middle-Aged Man" this morning and wondered if anybody else here thinks the writer was just full of **** or if we all are going through the Mid-life Crisis thing.

From the article:

"Did you really just get a red Corvette?"
Red Corvettes have become synonymous with the male mid-life crisis. Certain milestone birthdays trigger a response where men question their purpose and direction in life. In some cases, it would seem that the part of the brain that controls fear of aging runs amok and men regress to their teenage years. Chevrolet has long been aware of this syndrome and has capitalized on it quite nicely. According to market research firm Strategic Vision, the average Corvette buyer is 59 years old. Men who drive red Corvettes claim they are simply having a "me" moment after bringing home the bacon for several decades.

_____________________

I wonder why the writer had to pick on RED? I bought my Red Vette because #1. Red is my favorite color. #2. I've always loved Corvettes and always wanted one. #3. I enjoy driving high performance cars including the Red Trans Am and Red Formula and Camaros I'd had before the Vette.

I personally think the writer is full of it. I'm having the time of my life and a mid-life crisis is not on my horizon.

What sayest thou?

I'm on a perpetual mid life crisis. Started at age 28, now 61. Mostly hot sport bikes, now the CORVETTE.

I enjoy driving a high performance vehicle. I've wanted one since 1964 and finally came up with one in April. Guess I had a pre-teen crisis that just recently got solved. Wow, I was screwed up for a long time. But now I'm cured.

I'm 29 and just picked mine up a couple of weeks ago .. in white, so clearly not mid life crisis material, haha. I just enjoy high performance cars. It's what motivates me and what I look forward to after a tough day at work . I've always driven a performance car, I'm not one for a boring daily driver.

I wonder if I'll really have a "mid life crisis" car or if I'm getting it out of the way early? ha.

I will say the average age thing isn't surprising. I really don't see many younger vette drivers, which is a shame. I think some of the interior and electronics upgrades will draw in some younger buyers though on the c7, but it will be few and far between with the cost of entry.

Been driving performance cars since I bought my first new car, '69 GTO, before age 21. Have had them ever since, but recent ('06) to Vettes as needed back seats in cars for kids, thus mainly Trans Ams. Think I skipped over midlife crises...

I guess I started my mid-life crisis at age 16.. Had hot rods and performance cars, first new car was a red IROC-Z28 at age 22 and first Corvette was a black C4 in my early 30's. My daily driver is a red BMW M5!

I proudly own a Victory Red Corvette, always wanted one, and am nowhere near my midlife crisis (ahem, chronologically). Folks can think what they want. I love it.

A mid-life crisis would be not being able to get a Corvette even after working your *** off for half of your adult life. That would suck, how is being able to get one a crisis?

Just wanted a performance car. Many buyers can't afford them until later in life, or have use for one until the kids are grown and gone. I had my first Vette in my 30's, second in my 40's.

Grew up in the 70's all my friends had muscle cars, we spent weekends at the local dragstrip. My mom bought a new 68' Dodge Charger, cars have been in my blood from an early age. Been driving performance cars my whole life and then at 48 years old made my dream of owning a Corvette come true. So for me it's not a mid life crisis, it's a way of life and the Corvette is the pinnacle of American performance!

I sold my first Corvette when I was 30 in order to purchase a motorcycle. Now that I’m 46 I figured I better buy another one before it's too late. That probably counts as two midlife crisis events…

Hello All,

A mid life crisis is just a time when you evaluate where you have been and what you have done and evaluate where you want to go from there. You realize you are not going to live forever and that you have worked hard and should reward yourself. So you decide to realize your dream and buy a fast car and or motorcycle and have some fun now that the kids are out of the house.

Nothing wrong with that what so ever!

When I was a little boy I wanted a vette after I saw the first one. In my 20's I drove Datsun 280Zs and 300 ZXs. In my 30's I bought a 1968 Camaro show car and had a lot of fun with that. When I hit 36 I asked my self why I was driving the Camaro when I wanted a Corvette and I could now afford one.

Since then I bought 3 Corvettes and still own two of them. Last summer at 48 years old I bought a Hayabusa motorbike and I am chasing 200MPH in Ohio on an airport runway.

Check it out

If this is a mid-life crisis, I've been having it since I was 16 years old! My first car at 17 was a 1968 Plymouth Belvedere GTX with a 440 Super Commando!

Either I just enjoy higher performance cars or I have been having a mid-life crisis since I was 16
