in the upper left hand corner and lists and ident number, is this supposed to match the partial vin or how do you know the tank sticker belongs with that particular car? also, tri power ac car how much more valuable $ for one with a tank sticker can compared to the same car with no documentation? thanks

The Ident Number matches only the Ident Number on the original paperwork - it's completely unrelated to the VIN or any other number; the NCRS Document Validation Service (temporarily unavailable) can confirm for you whether your tank sticker is authentic or not - nobody else can.

Correct me if I am wrong, but each car has a number 1-500 HAND written on the tank sticker. This # also appears on the doors(seen with the door panel removed) and also on the passengers side foot well outside below the heater core box. The # also is written on the rear of the body in front of the gas tank. Sometimes these #'s are covered with paint or grease. My 66 does not have a tank sticker as they started in 67. The doors have the #350E it has power windows. Am I correct in this understanding, as I also have # 350 in the places indicated above. Thanks

That's the "Body Shop Job Number", which is unrelated to any other numbers on the car.

Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, but only as a handwritten number - not part of the computerized record for the car. The handwritten number on the tank sticker is also thought to be the Final Assembly Sequence Number, which locked it in sequence from where it was loaded on the Hard Trim Line (where it got its VIN and trim tag) to the end of the Final Line, where it was driven off to Roll Test.

there is a relationship of the handwritten production number on the tank sticker to the vin.



usually, the production number will be less than by a few digits or equal to the last three digits of the vin or the last three digits of the vin less 500 (the production increment).



in my case, the last three digit of my vin are 898. 898 less 500 is 398.

the production number 395 you see written on the tank sticker in my case is three less than the 398 (898 less 500).

the production number on my car is also visible on the passenger side floor below the firewall and behind the gas tank.

What part of what John said don't you people understand. I have many 67 tank stickers that with any kind of math you can NOT connect the job # to the VIN #. I know in 1970 the last 3 #'s of the VIN along with a job # & hardly any of those are close to the same.

i see with doc and without doc as two different markets. a person who seeks a documented car will not likely care about undocumented prices or how much a difference would motivate them to buy an undocumented car, as that is not what they want.

Yes he does, and I would consider his opinion as "expert" same as for his engine pad and trim tag evaluations. I had him evaluate my tank sticker, that affirmation is now part of my car's documentation folder. And just FYI, I have asked several times at NCRS for an update on the return of the Document Validation Service and am now unofficially told "maybe never." The official response remains "check back soon" and "ask your regional representative."

Yes, he does some verification, but only NCRS has the data from Chevrolet to tie a tank sticker directly to a particular VIN.

Have you guys ever seen a car where the tank sticker is still in place, and during restoration, instead of removing the sticker, they replaced the whole tank with a repro tank, so that the sticker could stay affixed to the original tank? I have run across a car like this. I thought that was pretty neat.

A 400 level NCRS judge recently told me that his opinion is 2 identical cars (theoretically of course), one having a tank sticker, would be about $20,000 difference in value.
