Chambered Side Exhaust

Chambered Side Exhaust
On my c3, I have a stock 350 in. I would like to make some side exhaust, however I don't want anything loud to the point of not being able to hear anything in the car or drawing attention from blocks away. I just want a nice little rumble and the look of side pipes. My big question is what would be the approximate volume of a 40" chambered pipe on a stock motor? No headers - it has manifolds. Classic Chambered Exhaust makes the powersticks in 40" and I love the way they sound, however I want to be sure they wont be too loud. Thanks
Any suggestions for good "CHAMBERED" sounding mufflers that would work is welcome to. I am making my own pipe so I need some kind of tube muffler that will fit under stock like covers
Thanks

The 40 in. chambered pipe will sound like most any 65_67 SBC with factory side pipes . I went with the 20_20 Corvette pipes from them. I am glad I did. They are a bit more mellow, not as raspy as the full chambered pipe.
The 20_20 is bit louder than the glass packed patriots that I ran for years.

You should really call Eric at Classic Chambered.
I bought a set of his Vette Pack mufflers for hooker side pipes, and couldn't be happier. Decent noise attenuation at idle and cruise, and sound outrageous at full throttle.

you need to remember , no matter what you do your ear is 3 feet from the exhaust outlet. your going to hear it no matter what. i have header sidepipes with free flowing inserts and to the average person its quite loud.but thats how i like it.

My $.02....my second Vette was a 67 SB Coupe, which had chambered side pipes when purchased. Although they sounded great, my drive to and from work (it was a "dd" at the time) gave me a full blown headache each time. Needless to say, they came off and were sold within 1 day. I then replaced them with the "off road" dual exhaust offered by Chevrolet at the time. The sound was great and very enjoyable, and no more headaches.... Tom

It's all in the design. There is nothing else built even close to the same principal of the VettePack. Tuning + decibel attenuation all in one unit per side.

Mine had these side pipes on it when I bought it. I've rebuilt the engine and find the pipes a little loud for my taste. I have to blast the stereo with 100w amp to hear it at speed. I don't think that holding a conversation would be possible. It's seams worse with the top on. I've considered converting it back to a standard exhaust. Also, to my surprise, they seem a bit restrictive, flow wise. But they look good!

Those are the factory style side pipes, they look great and sound good. They are somewhat restrictive. They were designed to sound good.
Corvettes are generally loud .

Those are the factory style covers. The look great. What muffler is under there? If they are the original 69 style pipes they are about as quiet as you will find. from there as the mufflers get more free flowing, they also get louder.

Allen's Stainless Exhaust in Indiana makes side pipes with chambered tubing.
I have a 1968 C3 427 Convertible and a 1988 C4 Coupe with L98 and both cars have Chambered Exhaust systems from Allen's. I bought them at a show and saved a bunch. That was 25 years ago or more and the systems are still working great.
After riding in a 1967 C2 with side-pipes for a while there is no way I could handle the noise.
The chambered Exhaust is nowhere as noisy as side-pipes but has enough sound (for me) as they both exit the rear in the standard fashion. I used the less expensive "Aluminized" Steel for my Corvettes and they still look and sound awesome after all the years. They were simple to install and make the Corvettes sound like they should. They makes Chambered Exhaust systems for many years of Corvettes and are a great company to do business with.

I really like the look of side pipes. And moving the exhaust to the outside for less cabin heat and accessibility to the transmission and rear end. But looking for options to quiet it down.

I just got back from the winter meet, this may be my last year. But anyway contact the guys that make sweet thunder inserts, they seem to have several new options for quieter and performance.
