Just stumbled across this ACROSS THE STREET IN NEIGHBOR'S GARAGE! Who knew - car has been in the garage for like 7 years; I've never seen it out and I've lived in my house for 9 years now...

'67 GTO factory triple black convertible, rock solid body with some dents but chrome/stainless is all there and good, engine is original but was heavily raced 'in the day', factory 4-speed, interior and soft top are flawless. Glovebox is full of '67 NHRA books on racing rules, etc...

Has a 'hood tach' - don't think that was available in '67.

Some funky mods like dual spotlights etc; paint is rough....hasn't started in 7 years, four flat tires.

Elderly neighbor's brother told her he's gonna "get it running" but she says he knows nothing about cars and wondered if I'd tackle it.

Not just no, but hell no, but I will BUY it. I offered to buy it outright if the money is good - she'll talk to her brother.

I have no idea what's fair so if you have any thoughts pls advise!

I don't know what's fair Frankie, but it is a cool find. What's up with the white (ish) firewall, fenders but not the inner fenders, control arms, and red under hood? Weird.

If it's all there and cranks, and is otherwise as described I would guess low teens. I'm thinking - rock solid four speed black convertible is a plus, but it can't be cheap to really make it stand tall. Let us know how you fare!

I'm a little out of the loop on pricing as I bought a legitimate complete minus engine ram air III hood tach '70 project for $500 15 years ago.

I have no idea what it's worth, but I'm sure there's a following for the old GTO's, especially a black convertible!

I got the feeling the elderly neighbor's brother (he's in Ohio) thinks its a gold mine and he'll get it running and 'flip it' for megabucks. I'll take a stab at getting it for good money but not get too fizzed up about it.

I told the neighbor its prob $18K-$25K to make the car factory fresh (I haven't seen the frame yet!); probably $1K-$2K just to get it running if the motor isn't seized. I think she was shocked.

I'm thinking it'll sit in limbo for another 5 years until folks pass away, go into extended care, etc. and some uncaring relative gets it and sells it for beans -- we'll see...

Check the body build tag to see what color it was from the factory. I'm betting it was white. You can also check ebay & see what others are going for.

Nope - checked it out -- a factory triple black car.
The funky white/red under the hood is certainly Bubbaed. The wiper motor, ignition coil and other parts got a liberal dose of white paint too when it was done.

Hard to say how many times it was painted but factory firewalls were always a dull black on Pontiacs. I agree with plaid side on his appraisal. The big thing rusted frame or bent frame.
It's sometimes amazing what is hidden in some garages. Around where I live there's a 63 fuelie convertible that's been sitting around twenty years. A 68 Shelby Mustang fastback and a 70 Cutlass Supreme convertible.

That car is worth $20,000 all day long if it's rust-free. Hood tachs were indeed available in '67. Convertible is a big jump over hardtop in value. Just for comparison, I bought a '64 convertible w/389 Tri-Power, 4-speed that needed work for $14,000. That is, back in 2003.

There is a lot of variables to this Frank. The big one is it a real GTO or clone. Then the condition of the body in terms of rust. Answer those questions then more questions can be asked then the value can be determined.

Because this was an Ohio car, you absolutely need to look at the frame. They use VAST amounts of salt on the roads up here! By the way, I spent many a Sunday at that dragstrip (Dragway 42) back in the sixties.

'67 GTO VIN will start with "242". Of course you'd want to do the PHS before buying, which is around $75 now, I think. Rust-free cars are hard to find, but the '64 I had was also. I had to rebuild the engine and shoot another coat of color on the body, and put on a new top, but when it was done it was a real head turner.

I think the site 1965markaccount used was the same one that Condon and Skelly has links to from their site. I find the high-end values exceedingly unrealistic, When I ran my '67 L79 (PS, PW tinted glass and not much more) through that calculator, it gave me a high value of 122.5K. I know that's for a number one condition trailer queen, but I don't think I've ever seen a small block '67 go for anywhere near that kind of money. OK, a well documented L79 tanker with A/C (if such a thing existed) might be different. The high end values they give seem to be almost double of what is realistic.

And boy oh boy, would I love to be proven wrong on this.

Frankie: Nice find. I had a 65 GTO also black. It had no power nothing It was a beast to drive. Like all the A body cars, check the frame for rust, and the other usual places where salted water could collect. Like the Corvettes, matching numbers really enhance the price of the car. The frame and suspension were much like your Chevelle. I am curious as to what the time slips showed with the 400 CI engine. Keep us posted. Jerry
