Default Magnetic shocks... 3 are leaking

Hi just wondering if anyone else has run into this issue.
My 6500 mile '14 vert Z51 & mag ride. I had it on my lift just looking around and notice dirt on 3 of the shocks. I touch it and its wet.

I'm curious if this has been a reported issue? Search did not turn anything up on the C7's

Thanks..
Pete

Highly unlikely that 3 would fail simultaneously. Just because a shock is or appears to be wet doesn't mean it's shock fluid.

Look through these 2 companion threads from C6 and see if you can follow the recommendations for testing what's one the outside:

Look at both pages of this one first:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...f55-shock.html

Then this one:

If you had 3 shocks that truly failed and are leaking there is an environmental reason.

Did you drive through something, use some new cleaner, park in a caustic environment? I had a bottle of chlorine pellets in my garage, the lid came loose, rusted every last thing in it within 6 months.

I guess improper install could have done it too.

That is very unusual.

Rick... THANKS for the links!!! I will check it out with a magnet tomorrow. The car is spotless underneath. I bought it from the original owner 6 months ago. He lived in Palm springs. Car never driven in rain, and hardly saw sun.

It seemed very unusual to me too!

I keep the car in a separate air conditioned building on a lift most of the time with my other Vetts. Too hot to drive this time of the year here in sunny AZ.

I'm going to check it out with a magnet tomorrow and report back.

Love this forum... 9 years and running!!

All 4 of the MRC shocks on my 2005 XLR were leaking by 60k.
Replaced them all around 90k.
Consistently going over speed bumps can cause premature failure (there are several steep ones in my neighborhood).
It's a common and expensive problem, and thus, my C7 was ordered without MRC.

If they are truly leaking, make sure you get them replaced before the warranty is up.

Thank you for sharing that. I have a bottle of chlorine pellets in my garage and they are leaving the garage in the morning.

$4,400 bucks?
I can completely understand your reasoning not getting 'em this time around.

I'm a Noob, but why does replacing four shocks cost $4,400?

Because the mag ride shocks are way more expensive than normal ones.

I put the part numbers from the invoice pictured above into ebay and found them brand new for around $600. So I guess $4,400 is just the price someone is going to pay for just handing their car over to the dealer.

My car is Z51 but does not have ride, and I had to take it to the dealer for a bad shock.

Default Update: all 4 shocks leaking to some degree

See pics.. I took the lead from the C6 forum.. wiped a section of each shock, I marked the location and tested them with a magnet. Yep... the fluid is magnetic and as it turned out all 4 are leaking. Rears much worse than fronts. I'm going to take my swabs and the magnet but sounds like no big deal.
Because...
I called my local dealer... he said no problem he has been seeing more and more of these and they keep plenty in stock. If you miss the bumper to bumper warranty rock auto has them for about $350 each. 20 minute each to install.

I don't like hearing "he's been seeing more and more of these" but all parts can fail eventually.

Is it covered under warranty?

Default Final update

Dealer called yesterday all 4 shocks are leaking and will be replaced under warranty.

They are a pain to see and if you have mag ride I suggest you crawl under and look at them as I'm sure I'm not the only one with this issue.

Sort of shocked (haha) to see all 4 go, but glad its not costing anything.
FYI, Mine is an November '13 build.

There replacing the radio too because of the blinking screen.

And so it goes in the world of Corvettes!

Added complexity/features result in more failure points. Trade-offs.

Question:

Did you have any messages on the DIC to indicate a problem with the suspension?
