C6 Z06 vs C7 Grand Sport
I have had my c6z since 2009 and still enjoy the heck out of it. I just had a great track day at my local road course. Seems the newer Z06 is faster everywhere but they all overheat or sneak off the track before their session is over because they know it will overheat. My C6 Z puts the smack down on the regular stingray and pulls them by a few car lengths down the back straight at road Atlanta and don't seem to have any more bite in the corners.
I am itching for something new but I can't justify spending 75k or more on a slower car. Is the GS actually faster than a c6z? None of the tests I have seen in the mag's have compared the two yet or published any GS lap times at any of the major tracks.
Has anyone driven both or have any insight?

Big Willow. FYI, this track rewards high HP. Also check out the Car & Driver VIR Lightning Lap results, it's another track that rewards high HP.

Cool. What did the C6Z run at big willow? It will take another two years for me to believe that the cooling issue is actually fixed! Plus I really do prefer NA. I wish they bumped the GS horsepower to 525. I bet they won't because it would run the same lap times as the Z06.

This is the best I could find. C6 Z06 on slicks ran a 1:34 at Big Willow.

FYI, the 2011 Z06 had the Z07 package.

Interesting. I have headers tune x pipe and intake and I run on pilot super sports. So that could explain why I pull away from stingrays on the straights and don't loose time in corners with them. What is the weight of the newGS? My early Z06 is pretty light. I think about 3300 with the lighter older transmission etc.

^A GS/Z07 1LT is around a little less than 3,400.

Under 3400 lbs., no way. The C7 Z51 weighs over 3400 w/ smaller tires and wheels, and a lighter body.

It's 3,425 for a GS, add the Z07 package with the much lighter brakes and you're down to around 3,400.

That's nonsense.

Ok it's 3,428 not 3,425.

Yes, the GM marketing department is certainly clever and has apparently decided in 2016, that somehow the GS magically weighs less than the Z51 did in 2014, even though it has bigger tires and wheels, bigger brakes, bigger body panels, more cooling enhancements, and without any other fundamental changes. I missed the memo as to how they managed to reduce it's weight. C&D has it between 3500-3600 lbs. depending upon equipment.
Next time you pass by a truck stop, spend $10 and drive up on the scale. It's easy, and they're happy to weigh your car for you. It will only take a few minutes.
They'll give you a copy of your weight slip for what it weighs as it sits. Subtract your weight, 6 lbs. per gallon for fuel, 20 lbs. for oil, and about 12 lbs. for coolant. That will give you the empty weight a manufacturer should be reporting.
Post a picture of your weight slip, and I'll do the same for my Z51.You'll find that very interesting.

Oh yea, and since GM's weight of 3428lbs didn't include fuel weight, I'd say their numbers are pretty much spot on.

As I said, weigh your car and get back to the forum.
I'm only expressing healthy skepticism as to how GM could say the Z51 empty weight is 3444 in 2014, and now a GS somehow weighs less. I'm not wrong, I simply reported what C&D said the GS weighed. Obviously, car mags aren't to be trusted.
I'd like to see some actual weights, rather than what car mags and GM claim. I will weigh my Z51 and report back. Once I do, I'll start a new thread, "What does your C7 weigh?"
If you had read carefully, you would have seen I said that empty weights don't include passengers, fuel, oil, or coolant weight, so I'm being totally fair here, and I gave the formula for what things to subtract to get a true empty weight.
