Default Wheel/Tire skip??

I just bought a 2014 C7. I notice when I back in or pull out of a parking space making a hard left or right turn the wheels/tires skip. It sounds and feels like the axle is going to snap. I had car to dealership to show them and they tell me it is normal because of the wide tires. I have had all types of Corvettes; all have wide tires; not sure if that is true or there is an issue? Please Advise.

Yes it's "normal" but unsettling. The driver who drove my car off the delivery trailer mentioned it first, 3 years ago.

This is called the Ackerman Effect. It is due to the fact that the Vette's
front wheels both turn the same angle when steering. Some vehicles remedy this but it was determined that for greater handling, etc., GM said no. It is only noticeable when driving slow like turning around in a parking lot or in you driveway.

you don't get this with the Michelin A/S 3+ tires, only with the summer tires. Had mine out yesterday@ 15 degrees and no problem at all.

It's more noticeable in cold weather. I did not notice it at all when it was warm.

Just remember, the reason that these summer tires hop is because the soft rubber grips really well. As you are trying to see how fast you can make that curve don't forget you have different tires now.

I had two C3s and they didn't do it at all. I had an 86 C4 and it did it somewhat. The C5, C6 and C7 all do it very noticeably. Don't know about the 2014 but newer Owner's Manuals address the subject since so many people are worried about it.

It's normal for the tires to 'hop' while going slow during a sharp turn. Nothing to worry about. Good question though.

The summer tires don't hop in summer weather. They hop below 40 because they get real hard and have no traction. I've already tested the Michelin A/S 3+ on my favorite curves and corners with identical results as with the summer tires on a hot day. Same speeds and Gs. We'll have to see how they perform on a hot summer day. Haven't decided to keep the OEM summer tires for summer yet or just run the A/S year round. We'll see come summer.

I have a Grand Sport which is even worse but once the tires warm up it goes away.
Nothing to worry about.

Has nothing to do with wide tires. The dealer did not know the answer so he made one up.

Get rid of the run flats and put on Michelin AS/3+ non run flats and buy a GM compressor/slime kit.

= no more tire scrubbing / no reduced braking capability in cold weather/ not as sticky and won't throw gravel/ quieter/ smoother ride/ no sidewall cracking risk in temperatures below 20* F if you winter drive your car.

From: http://blog.patmcgrathchevyland.com/...ette-stingray/

Explaining the Ackermann Effect:

Without getting into too much geometry and mathematics, the Ackermann Effect is a skipping or lurching of the wheels when the vehicle is turning sharply. The effect is created by the inside and outside wheels traveling at different speeds and distances.

Essentially the outside wheels are traveling further, creating a skipping or jumping effect.

A system, which was patented by Rudolph Ackermann in the 1818, turned the wheels at different angles and created a smooth turn for four-wheeled wagons.

Most cars use a system to mitigate the Ackermann Effect, the Corvette Stingray, however, goes without.

Its normal. It drove me crazy when it first happened to me. Even took it back to the dealer to get it checked.

I have new Nittos on my car which aren't runflats and my car does not do this anymore. I have driven it in below freezing temperatures and it has not done it since.
