White letter tires....
Are they just a fad or here to stay? Painted on or glued, they've been seen on new Vettes to Camaros, Mustangs, Challengers even BMWs. Does the look pay homage to old school muscle cars or should it be left to the past? If you have them on your C5, post it...

They're probably just a fad, but I do like the look. Guess that is the old school coming out in me.

Yeah you can buy them as raised adhesive stickers.

Another popular way to go is a reverse one-time use vinyl mask which you then spray your color on. A lot of owners go that route because cut plain white vinyl is pretty cheap nowadays; it'd cost a fraction of the tire letter stickers to do.
Becoming more prominent also, particularly in the import crowd or really any car with a real thin side profile tire, is "shaving" the tire and then applying the letters. Shaving is as you imagine it; you shave all the raised portions of the sidewall with a razor to make a smooth surface; for that "moar race car!!" look.

My fear with any kind of sticker is sooner or later the glue let's loose or worse yet some butt hole peels one letter off...
Biggest reason for no dash, steering wheel or rear letters on mine...

I have white letter BF Goodrich on my 70 and think it looks fine on the older cars.
Just not a fan of them on the newer cars that have low profile tires with small sidewalls.

Me too. But they don't. At least not at this time. I put Goodyear white letter Polyglas GT's on a 70 GTX I used to have and Goodyear redlines on a 69 Roadrunner. They looked great. And I really liked the white outlines ala Goodyear Wrangler and Michelin all seasons. They wouldn't overwhelm the low profile tires of today. Maybe they will bring them back. "Hello Goodyear...Michelin... anybody. Are you listening?"

And an afterthought. I really don't care for the serrated vertical bands that seem to be the rage now or at least in the recent past. Hard to clean and would eat up the foam applicators I use to put on tire dressing.
