Default C2 Shock Absorbers

OK guys. Need some shocks for my 64 resto. What is "reasonable" without going to Pep Boys? Anything similar to original out there that isn't made from unobtanium? I can paint, so color not important.

Just about any OEM replacement brand will be fine.

For everyday driving I would simply use the current AC Delco front and rear shocks...about $24 apiece from Rock Auto.

Front - ACDELCO 530315
Rear - ACDELCO 5304

That's what I put on our car, and I have been very happy with them.

Pop
if interested in as-original appearance, and performance look at the Monroe 5906 and 5850.
Just need to be painted blue-grey if you want, or leave black for 1964.
You can find them new all day long on ePay.

As an aside, I put a pair of those on my '69 bare chassis and then found out that, because they extend ~1-1/2" further than the original shocks, caused the half-shaft U-joints to bind and I was unable to roll the unweighted chassis without first installing longer than stock spring bolts. I'm not sure if the same thing would happen on a C2 though.

I have a nice set of lightly used Bilstein shocks that I would sell. If you are interested send me a PM. I'm thinking $125.00 + freight.

I might be interested as my 25 year old HD Sears shocks seem pretty bouncy. Was there a particular reason you removed them?

65hihp,

Are you able to rotate your rear wheels when jacked up without the half-shafts binding with the 5850s?

Thanks,

I just put these on my '64 this weekend. Definitely improved the ride.

Thinking of replacing the front and rear shocks on my 65 and came across this informative thread. I am considering the AC Delco 530315/ 5304 or the Monroe 5906/5850.

My question is - which are closest in resemblance to the original shocks, the AC Delco or the Monroe?

Thank you - Hunter

The KYB gas-adjusts are fairly popular and I had them on my '64 for a long time with good results.

I replaced them with some Tokicos that were won in a raffle. They also work well.
