Default My 1979 C3 repair Efforts

Ok,
I'm loving this forum but sometimes searching for info can be overwhelming and posts missed. As a result I'm going to document all my repairs on google docs and share out Readable Links. Comments are welcome.

Note: It will be a couple weeks til I get on the next one. I'm getting a new engine since the previous owners mechanic over-tightened the headbolts and turned cyl's 1 and 2 into little green swimming pools... CHECK YOUR TORQUE VALUES!!!! Yes, I've given the previous owner, my father, an opinion on the quality of work of his mechanics.

Documents:
#1) 1979 C3 Windshield Wiper Switch or Bulb Replacement
#2) 1979 C3 Door Access and Window Motor Inspection
- * Someone else did this guide, I'll start with it and do my own follow-up.. Yup, mine door wasn't the same, looks like a different door.
- * https://www.corvetteforum.com/how-to...w-motor-368474

Coming up:
- Probbably window switch and motor replacement
- Center AC/Vent Duct re-seating
- Vacuum Hose Replacemnt
- * Hoses at Headlights
- * Hoses near wipers
- I'm sure there'll be a lot more

-R

Hi r,
This looks like a very worthwhile undertaking since there isn't as much info presently available for 'later' 68-82 cars as there is for earlier cars!
Regards,
Alan

Robert, thanks for sharing info. I too am working on a 79. Have been into the headlights, vacuum system, heater controls, Window regulators, door lock actuators, delay timer for interior lights, and glove box lights. Fun project.

Sad part is, my 81 is a DD. I did all that 10 years ago, and now I am finishing doing it all again. Just sayin................:lol :

Take notes and pics! I took the door already to look at the window this weekend. Looks like I need a new motor or switch but I got good pics of the door assembly so I'll post those when I write it up.

It can be and that's why the shop manual is much more useable and comprehensive than forum search notes.

In fact 1979 was the first year GM published a dedicated Corvette Shop Manual...I use it for my 1978 too frequently. i then used forum contributions as tech tips.

Thanks. Feedback on the Docs/Pics as well as recomendations on what else to do and keep an eye on are VERY welcome. I'm not a professional mechanic. I'm actually a computer geek by trade. Some things I will do, some, such as the current engine replacement, I won't.

I've got a 1963-1982 repair and tune up manual in digital. I've got a hard-bound of the assembly manual but haven't found a digital I can keep on my tablet as I go or search through. Didn't need it yet, but I think I'll be looking for one soon that's more than someone scanning by hand at home.
