Painting Rotor Hats With a Paint Brush- NO SPRAY??
Has anyone attempted to paint their rotor hats with a plain old paint brush? Instead of having to mask, spray, eliminate over-spray etc??
Seems like an old school paintbrush would be the easiest if you can not leave paint strokes while applying...
I know there is a million threads on this....but very little on brush painting them??
Pics and testimonials would be greatly appreciated!!

I did mine with a 500* high heat engine spray and didn't mask anything. Localize the spray and the small amount of overspray on the rotor brake surface can be wiped with a steel wool pad, but the brake pad will finish the job and leave it perfect.

Seems like every other thread made it a whole 8 hr project and I just don't get it...

I brush painted mine with silver POR15 caliper paint. I also painted the outside edge of the rotor as well, makes a big difference in the look. Getting paint on the rotor surface isn't a big deal and actually you want that to make a nice clean line at your rotor hat. The paint comes right off when you apply the brakes.
Don't have a pic at the moment.

I just cut out a template from cardboard for what I wanted to mask.
Sit it on the rotor and spray. Quick and easy.

Got some curb rash on this wheel. Otherwise, here's a pic of the rotor and caliper painted via a brush with POR15. It's all in the prep. Clean everything good and wipe off with wax and grease remover. Prep with POR15 metal prep and paint. Took a couple hours.

I did mine the same way (looks like same color, too) Blindspot explained in post #3. Total time spent on all four rotors was about an hour and a half, and that included waiting for paint to dry between coats, eating lunch, putting tires back on and taking car off of jack stands. They turned out great!

I’ve been painting rotors on all of my cars for years because of the ugly, rusty look without it. The absolute best way that I’ve found is to clean them up really well with a die grinder using the 2” brown roloc (not sure on spelling) disc, put them on a brake lathe, turn it on and spray paint with typical caliper spray paint, the stuff you get at the auto parts store. With the rotor spinning you get nice even coats and you can get down in the vents really good. It also gets all the cross drilled holes. Rotors look brand new and stay that way. I used to worry about cleaning off the contact part but gave up on that years ago too. Slap ‘em on and go drive. The pads will clean that area and EVERY other part keeps that brand new painted look. If it bugs you and you think you’ve now embedded paint in your brake pads, take them off and scuff them up. This is the quickest way to make them look fantastic.
The paint on the Cobra rotors was probably about 2-3 years old when I took that picture.

I was in the process of cleaning, prepping, priming and painting my 2012 Grand Sport Rotors.
I Muratic Acid to Remove the Heaviest Surface Rust in a large enough plastic tub that I could
place the rotor flat and slosh the acid back and forth
Then I used a PREP & ETCH product I bought at Home Depot (area where they have paint thinner etc)
I have these Extreme High Temp Primer and Paint (Cast Iron Color) I bought from KBS several years ago..
The primer is aerosol but the paint is in a pint can...I am not set currently to use spray equip (gun) so I
applied the top paint coat with a small brush and heat cured in my oven at 350 degrees.
The first rotor turned out "OK" but I just didnt like the FLAT look of the CAST IRON paint.....
When I found out I could buy 4 NEW ZINC PLATED Rotors on EBAY for $194 (Free Shipping)
I gave up the paint project and Ordered The new SHINY Plated Rotors
I will post pics of everything when Im back together
