Default Decision - last of the 17's or first of the 18's

So, I'm working on a GS with a couple folks at quality dealerships.

I wish I was this smart in mid 2015 when I ordered my 2016 base.
I really like it but if I waited a few months and had knowledge of this type of forum....maybe I would have waited out the GS announcement.

Hind sight is 20/20.

Its hard to find "the car" in stock.

My boss - the wife - says this is my last Corvette purchase - so I really want to get close to my perfect GS.

I am compromising on color and a couple options on the in stock choices.

A 2017 gets me the loyalty rebate which I'm betting sticks around for the next couple months.
A 2018 likely is not incented like that.
Hard to walk away from the rebate.

A "last of the run" 2017s is going to be a year old and depreciated in June.
A "first of the 2018s" won't have that issue until mid 2018.

I just sold my current stingray...I don't have a deposit and haven't transferred it to the new owner yet but my moral code says I can't re-neg.

All the Scotch in the cabinet is not lessening the anxiety.

Last night I was going to go the in stock route but as I write this I'm on the side of ordering a 2018, getting it by 7/1 and being fully satisfied.

Sounds like you have made your decision, I would pickup the 2017, probably not going to be much difference between 2017 and 2018. Put the savings in your pocket. When they start the deals on the 2018's, the prices will drop big time.

This. Take advantage of the savings. There is little to no difference between model years and any depreciation difference from 17 to 18 would be more than offset by the 17 discounts.

Do the 18 and order it how you want it. Compromise makes you think gee, this is ALMOST the way I wanted it!

It boils down to this:

1) if it's your last vette as per the wife, it's a compromised 2017 at a lower cost and you don't have to worry about depreciation because you're going to keep it well beyond 1 additional year of depreciation being material

2) if it's your last vette as per the wife, it's a 2018 exactly as you want it but higher cost

if it were me? i would do #2

I was bouncing between 17 GS or 18 GS and also did a thread. I chose to go 17 GS but I was able to get a order in and accepted by GM TPW 5/15. I went with 17 for a few reasons 1) I wanted Spice Red interior which is available in 18 but not in the package that includes full Spice Red dash and deep red calibers. 2) I will have car sooner for summer cruise nights and fun drives. 3) Got very good trade value on my trade in which would have been less later in year summer/ fall. 4) I'm not really worried about depreciation as I' not planning on getting rid of car for a many years. My wife also said for me to get this one RIGHT on the way I want it. Good luck on your decision. Dave

You can always expand your search. Check the major forum dealers they have tons of GS's in stock. But I do agree not to compromise.

Same dilemma had to choose between ordering a 2017 Z06 VERT or a 2018 Z06 VERT. My order also got accepted like Borntorun04 with a TPW of 5/15/17. Since their was little if any changes between the 2017 and 2018 Z06 I went with the 2017 to save $$$$$$$$$$.

Sounds like $ isn't the issue..
My advice to you is to order..
If you compromise, it seems like you'll regret it.. or second guess your decision, especially if your boss says its your last one.. (yea right) But anyway,

Do not regret ANYTHING about your "last" C7.
Get it 100% the way you want & don't look back!

If the "Boss" says this is your last Corvette order the 20 18 exactly like you want it and enjoy it.

Not a bourbon fan; I switched to good Irish whiskey.

Found out late last night that my order for a 2017 GS did get through; now at status 3000.
Its the car I want; no compromise.
Should have TPW assigned by end of this week.

Went through the birthing process with my 2016 and know the next two months will feel like nine.

All kidding aside...I would tell the wife to wake up and realize she is out of her mind...last vette? What kind of crap is that to say ? Of course if she is telling you to stop buying new cars every year or two....that I could understand..

Since you asked for opinions? If I were you...I'd pick up a pre owned well kept c7 z06 off one of the forum members...

A) you would be saving a few points of depreciation by buying preowned....showing your wife how smart and conscientious you are with your purchasing power ....and

B) you would be getting the 650 hp beast you know you really want...

C) because you purchased a pre owned z06 ...your resale depreciation will be less should you decide you want to sell it and buy another vehicle.....(or a rear mid engine C8)

D) give your wife a gabatrol max and tell her to chill out...and that herb mentioned will help..(kidding but it really is a cool vitamin herb)

Made my decision a few weeks ago and ordered my Grand Sport so could get what I wanted before the end of 2017 ordering past. Got it on Monday. Couldn't be happier.

You may have to break out another bottle if you thought you could get a 2018 in July! As I understand it, first dealers orders for a 2018 will be in June. Delivery September or maybe October! Plant is shutting down for several months!

Still inventory at the large dealers with good discounts. Not to far to drive to GA from Atlantic City! Did that for my '88 to SC. For the Grand Sport arranged Courtsey Delivery.

Order and get exactly what you want. If money is not the overriding issue, and money unfortunately is an issue for many of us, do not compromise on something that you really want. Compromise on a vacuum cleaner, not a Corvette.

I'd get the one I can get now. Tomorrow is never guaranteed. I'd be out riding the roads in my sweet ride. Good luck with whatever you decide and happy motoring!

What is your TPW mine is 5/15/17 and I am at status 3000 also. Welcome to the 2017 club . No changes on the 2018 besides HD radio makes it a no brainer to go with the 2017 and save some money. I am hoping that the 2017's will even have better incentives when are cars arrive in June. Congrats!

If it's your last Vette and money is not a problem then wait for the ZR1!

Congratulations on order being accepted by GM . Now the fun of waiting begins. Dave
