Heater blend door madness
So I was under the dash of my '89 replacing the little plastic rod holder on the blend door motor arm. Of course, the rod detached from the blend door. Why not? Is there any other way to reattach the rod to the door without taking the dash apart and accessing it from the top?
I can't afford a shop repair right now and arthritis in my wrists was making replacing the blend door motor plastic clip very painful. Is there a good way to access the door?
Thanks, Went

went, I did the heater core on my 87. I believe you were talking about the electronically controlled servo that is connected to the blend door on the heater box enclosure? If so, I had the passenger seat out of the car and was laying on my back. I am a fairly broad shouldered guy and it was pretty tough. But I got it done.
did you lose the clip? Or break the clip? I will see if I can find my thread which had the posting from Amazon that I purchased the small plastic clips from

I have to look into my 89, just noticed the heat is always on. I hope the clip is just broken, but with my luck it is something more involved.

I have clips, found some NOS GM clips. I just knocked off the rod from the blend door. I am wondering whats involved to reattach the rod to the blend door. I fashioned a wire clip to hold the door open about 1/2". Put it in through the access under the hood. I get heat but not roasting heat. I have a FSM for my '89 but can't see that this problem is covered.
Thanks

Had2Hav2, is that rod clip accessible from under the dash? Does the heater box come apart to access that side of the door and the clip? That clip on the door is exactly what I think has broken.

Melting Slicks
Remove the blower control module, with the red wire, located at the bottom left corner of this pic, you can see the side of the door the rod attaches too. You may need a long screwdriver.
back side of the heated core where your clip should be.
Others can help here as I am not 100% sure, you may be able to remove the evaporator core housing and get to the clip. I have not cleaned my evap. core yet but plan too.
Another way, and this is a long shot, someone with a long skinny arm may be able to attach the clip through the Blower control Module hole.

You can get that clip from Autozone or similar parts stores. It is located in the "HELP" brand section where small clips and bolts, etc. are sold. Dorman Company makes them. It's part # 75450. There is an assortment of clips in the package. Use the black one as it fits perfectly and is of very good quality. I used this and it holds better than the original part. Better design. The pack costs all of $3.99.
