Default 2007 C6 Convertible Purchase

Hello,

New user here. I'm considering buying a 2007 C6 convertible listed here: http://www.autoexchangelawrence.com/...8/Details.aspx

I'm new to Corvettes so I've got a couple of questions. Does $26,899 seem fair for a 2007 Convertible with 43k miles? Do you suggest having it inspected by a 3rd party prior to purchase? Any suggestions on what I should inspect myself? I test drove it yesterday and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

Thanks!

Take this VIN,1G1YY36U775109777, to any GM dealer.
Ask they run a GMVIS report detailing car's history while under original B2B, and any other times it was serviced at a GM dealer.
After reading a GMVIS a pretty accurate idea can be formed as to how good car was new...or, not.
Avoid repeated dealer visits for same problem,.

Looks lovely to me, 2LT, 43K is 4.3K p/yr. 'Low' miles.
Make certain dealer understands you'd expect all recalls performed, there aren't many. Headlight wiring in fuse box. Nothing big.

Lastly see if they'd bite on $25K, probably won't but then you're set-up to meet in the middle.
G/L, it's the season for a C6 roadster.

Thanks for the info Landru! I just contacted my local GM dealer and they said they wouldn't provide me with a GMVIS report as it contains "personal information". Do you know if anyone in the forum would be able to provide me with this report?

As for the price, I'll see if I can get them to go down to $25K. Thanks!

Just a FYI - the GM VIS report contains NO personal information related to the owners.

if no one volunteers, you may want to try Gene Cultrag at Cultrag Factory Parts, www.cultragfactoryparts.com and see if he may be able to assist............. forum vendor who specializes in OEM GM parts...

Run the VIN thru Google. Sometimes the VIN will show up on their if the vehicle was sold thru a auto auction or insurance auction.

The ad says "LT2", which is incorrect, that car is equipped with the 3LT package (HUD, heated seats, NAV, and steering wheel audio controls were part of, or only available with, 3LT in '07, at least when my car was ordered). Looks like a decent car with pretty much all available options, I had one just like it except for the auto trans. Price is no steal but is within reason if the car checks out clean.

I have seen an owners last name on the warranty part of the VIS if they purchased an extended service contract when they originally bought the car. But, that never stopped any VIS request I have made.

I finally got my hands on the GMVIS report:

GMVIS Page 1

GMVIS Page 2

There doesn't seem to be much that stands out to me. Except maybe the "REPAIR AS PER ESTIMATE" entries. Does anyone else see anything that stands out?

The written ad at the bottom is for a LT2 (2LT? LS2?) in Silver with Red interior. Ad doesn't match the triple black convertible in the photos. If I was the OP, I would call this dealer and ask which car they are trying to sell.

And a local GM dealer refusing to print a GMVIS report? WTH?!?

Just some food for thought.
You should visually inspect the fluid levels and color of transmission fluid.
Get the tire tread measurements to know if you'll be needing them replaced before the seasons over.
Get the brake pads measurement so you have an idea of the life left on them.
Serpentine belt inspected to as I did not see that listed as replaced..

I didn't see a single item that'd cause me any concern, whatsoever.
Roadsters had issues w/ top's strap stretching, adjustment issues, simple.
Although the RAE is curious, suffice to say it wasn't body/chassis/engine damage the result of a collision or otherwise problematic car.

Said you laid eyeballs on it & driven it and it's good, tight.
All you need to do now is consummate a deal.
Keep in mind it's Spring w/ a LOT of potential Corvette dreamers ready to pounce.

Yes - According to the AutoCheck it was in a reportable accident on August 19, 2011 - which explains the 'repair as per estimate". I would get more details on that.

Definitely a 3LT. The car looks clean. The p/o added grill screens but yet the exhaust tips look very dirty. I would have a mechanic check it out. With that mileage I would expect to pay a little less. As others said try $25k. A year ago my 07 BLK vert with 27,000 was approx same price as that dealer is asking. Good luck and have the harmonic balancer checked out.
I forgot about the accident. I would walk unless it was very cheap. There are many for sale.

The referenced Autocheck indicates that the reported accident was "moderate" as follows:

08/19/2011 IA State Agency
ACCIDENT REPORTED (Case #:643854)
MODERATE DAMAGE REPORTED

Current price does not seem to reflect the reported accident. Unless it was a killer price, many buyers would walk away from a Vette that was in an accident. If you are still interested in the car consider having a body shop look at the car regarding this accident damage.

Don't rush into a purchase...there are many good used Vettes out there at a reasonable price. The search is part of the fun. GLWYS!

I agree with others but note the Goodyear tires. Several brands are better. Assuming the damage was repaired properly, the price is not too bad and the mileage and condition are desirable. if that is the combo you want, go for it but start low.

I wouldn't touch that car mainly because of the accident. Also because there are only 3 oil changes listed and 3-4 years between each of them. The oil should be changed at least once a year no matter how low the mileage was each year. Don't listen to the people that tell you to change the oil when the DIC tells you. The manual says to change it at least once a year. Listen to the people that designed and built the car and not the shade tree mechanics.

Default price is way high

I bought an 06 black vert 3lt 1 year ago with 28500 miles for 23,500. No issues with the car other than needing front tires. My deal was private party but considering the mileage, age, and accident, the price you should pay a dealer is more like 22-23K. My advice would be to be patient and search--you will do much better!

Make sure you check for Harmonic Balancer/Dampener wobble before buying it too. Nice little $1k fix if it is wobbling.

Looks like a nice ride. Just an FYI I bought an o6 vert 3LT 36K in January in the L A area for $23800. I had a third party go over and no issues other then two front tires. Not sure in your area how many are for sale that will determine price point. Definitely have a vette expert look at it for you. Good luck
