Dexos1 oil change for $49. Worth it?
I received a coupon from my local GMC dealer (where I take my other vehicles) for a $49.95 Dexos1 oil change, up to six quarts. I called them and they said yes, I could use it for my 2012 A6 Grand Sport.
Would you guys do this or insist on Mobil1?
I'm not sure as this would be only the second oil change since I had it. The first one was free from where I purchased the vette, and I believe they used Mobile 1.

I don't know much about ACDelco Delos 1 but I find it odd that the manual describes it as "synthetic blend" and the ad says "full synthetic". I would prefer Mobil 1.

How long have you owned your 2012 GS? Oil change should be done at least once a year. I personally would never put AC Delco Dexos 1 Synthetic Blend in my car. Mobil 1 Full Synthetic or an equivalent name brand Full Synthetic.

Fwiw...I just had my purchased since new 107k miles corvette in for service and my trusted world class corvette specialist technician suggested the oil you mentioned. I trust Paul Koerner who does the seminars at Carlisle and bowling green as well as mid America and he said it was good to use.
It's been a couple of thousand miles and I have no negative side effects.
I hope this helps. Supposedly this oil is just as good as Mobil one for our cars so why not use it. I usually follow the D.I.C oil change interval when it's around 10 or 15 percent and I'm very proactive when it comes to service intervals in general. Ie. Change out spark plugs and wires at 50k rather than 100k

Bring your own Mobil1 & filter and ask how much they will charge you. My dealer here charges $14.95.

No tire rotate, but I bet they still pull your wheels and look at your brakes.
Many times the goal of their "$49" get in the door special is to sell you more services, many of them unnecessary.

Are you able to do it yourself? With the yearly Mobil 1 rebates, I can do my Z06 (8 quarts) with a WIX filter for less than $30. Plus, I know it's done right (oil filter not on too tight, no threads stripped, no oil dripping anywhere, no mess). Even if the dealership did it for free, I'd still do it myself.

I think too many people are overthinking this. While I change the oil myself, and use Mobil 1, for someone who can't or doesn't want to DIY, this is a fine option. The dealership is probably better than a quick lube place, and for someone who is just cuising/daily driving the car, AC Delco synthetic will be just fine.
It seems the AC Delco Dexos changed at some point from a synthetic blend to a full synthetic (or at least as much as we classify these group III oils as full synthetic.) As complete speculation on my part, I imagine it had to do with the change in Dexos Spec to the Gen-2 specification in 2015, but thats' just a guess.
Get the oil changed, and enjoy the car...

All oils that meet major manufacturer specs are very good. Presuming that you change oil and filter according to recommendations, and don’t do extremely severe driving such as frequent track use, odds that you will have an oil related problem with any of them are low. That said, full synthetics such as Mobil1 or any number of other full synthetics are slightly better lubricants. The biggest single advantage of full synthetics is that they don’t need much, if any VI improver to make specs, and VI improver can break down and lead to viscosity loss. But VI improvers have gotten more robust over the years, so that risk has dropped from significant to modest. Basically it boils down to your philosophy. Do you want to pay more for something that exceeds requirements when something that simply meets requirements is probably good enough.
As to ACDelco’s Dexos spec oil, as EVRose said, it has at least until recently been a synthetic blend, meaning a roughly 50/50 mix of group 3 synthetic and group 2 dino oil. Z28LT1 says it is now full synthetic. I haven’t heard that from others, and the ACDelco web site does not say. When I checked a few other web sites such as Amazon and a few car parts places, they show ACDelco Dexos2 oils as full synthetic, but that’s the diesel spec. ACDelco Dexos1 gasoline spec oils are still listed as blends. That said, I can’t rule out the possibility it’s been upgraded to a full synthetic. You’d have to look on the container to know for sure. The container cannot say full synthetic if it has any group 2 dino oil. If indeed the container still says synthetic or synthetic blend, then the dealer’s ad is false advertising.
