The best sports car I have ever owned is my current C7 convertible. It seems to do everything right. The worst car I have ever owned was my 1966 Corvair. It had terrible problems. I liked the Corvair styling and the handling was ok with steel belted tires. Now what was wrong with the car?
1. The cabin heating system. They used engine cooling air to heat the cabin. The cabin smelled of gasoline and burned oil most of the time. A magazine test also detected carbon monoxide. The air first flowed over the carburetors and then the exhaust manifold. The pushrod tube seals hardened rapidly, causing oil leaks that dripped onto the exhaust manifold producing smoke.
2. The clutch cable. The attachment of the cable to the clutch pedal was not done properly and this caused the cable end to break off after a while. I learned how to drive the car home without a clutch.
3. The car used O-rings to seal the push rod tubes and these hardened and stopped sealing resulting in significant oil leaks. VW had a better seal here.
4. Other troublesome areas: fan belt, flywheel, clutch pilot bearing
Mine did not have the major handling problem that lead to Unsafe at any Speed but was just unreliable due to bad engineering.
The pictures are not of my actual cars but ones I got from the web.

The C7 is the best, most fun car I have owned. As for the worst car - Hands down it was a gold Mercedes 300D turbo, which I dubbed the Golden Turd. It went through 2 transmissions, the a/c quit, it was slower than a sloth and my garage always smelled like a truck stop. I couldn't wait to get rid of it.

The worst car ever--a Pontiac T1000 I picked off the "lemon lot" Clark AB Republic of the Philippines back in the 80s. Sadly it was left behind when Mt Pinatubo blew up in 1991.

My 1991 Ford Thunderbird Super Coupe was both the best and worst car i owned... when it worked, it was the best, but it always seem to have something wrong with it... too bad because if they managed to build it properly, i might still own it.
Second runner up was my 1981 BMW 528i.

Best, 1995 BMW M3, bought new and still own it. Beside light bulbs, I think only 1 part ever broke in 21 years. Still looks great too.
Worst, 1971 MG Midget, the single most unreliable car ever.

worst for me was 1996 Chevy Blazer, piece of crap! Besides my 2015 Z51 being my best car I would say my 1992 Toyota Supra, loved that car and have many fond memories of it.

Worst car: 2007 VW Touareg. Never abused, properly maintained, always garaged. Transmission went at 18k miles; Out of warranty due to elapsed time, not mileage. Engine self destructed at 35k. $11,000 repair bill! Both of these issues were known with TSBs issued but no relief from VW
So glad to hear that those crooked VW execs are finally being brought to justice. VWs SUCK!
Best car (so far): C7
Virtually problem free for 18 months and it's a blast to drive.

Best car? My 2017 Corvette Stingray 2LT, of course. My first 'Vette! :-)
Worst car? A 1978 Chevrolet Chevette 2dr that I owned from 1983 to 1986. :-(
Rustiest car I ever had was my first vehicle, a 1964 Cadillac Sedan deVille that I bought for $100 in 1981 at the age of 16. We called it "Rattlecar Cadillactica." It would go very fast - but only in a straight line - and got about 8 miles per gallon.
Coolest at the time: 1988 Ford Mustang GT (my first new car), 1993 Mustang GT, a 1995 Mustang GT and - several years later - a 2008 Mustang GT.
Best "sleeper" car: 1978 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight LS coupe. 403, 4bbl, Jade Green exterior with "wire" wheel covers!
Best fuel mileage: 1990 Nissan Sentra XE 2dr; with a 5spd manual and a 1.6L engine.....42 miles per gallon on the highway!

Pic is an idealized version. Mine was painted flat back with a paintbrush and had no headiner.

Worst car: My current 2015 Corvette. Never had a car cause so many headaches, of course 80% of them transmission related and the other 20% infotainment system related. Not to mention it be sold under false pretenses (track ready, yeah right).
Best car: 2005 Corvette. No major problems at all, great car. The best car should have been my 2009 Aston Martin Vantage, the car was great, but the dealer was the cause of a bunch of headaches.
