I can't respond to that, because 58 was the LAST year that cooling ducts went from the front grill area, down through the rocker area and then ducted (with a fiberglass S duct) back to a scoop on the rear backing plate.
This is a genuine HD brake/susp 58 car which belongs to a dear friend of mine.

Tom,
Why the picture of the bottom of the front shock? Was there something different about it?

NOTICE the hole in the shock bracket was offset, NOT CENTERED like all other 53-62 Vette lower shock brackets---------------------A REAL HD SUSPENSION PART!!! (not known by many people)

Safety Car
The one '59 with RPO 565 is owned by a friend and he has been researching for years trying to understand exactly what it is. On his car, the front crossmember was discovered to have 3 large orange painted digits, 5 6 5 , painted on it.
RPO 565 was noted in several documents, it's even in the AIM RPO list in some of the above years, but no other AIM info. It has confusing descriptions. "Underbody Equipment", "Body Service List", etc.
This Thread I started late last year over on the NCRS site has lots of info. It also includes some speculation about the 1957 RPO 684 and RPO 579 and it's suffix confusion.

I was also somewhat involved in Rich's thread about RPO 565 on the NCRS forum.
I even sent an email to GM Historical Center asking for more information about RPO 565. They replied that they did not know anything about it.
It is definitely a mystery
