Default AHHHH...ZR1 or C7 ZO6?? Help please

Hello all,

I have been away from the forum for a bit after I sold my C6 to buy a C7 and after it was released, I really did not like the C7.

Fast Forward to now...I am deciding between a ZR1 and a ZO6. Found a 1710 mile Cyber Gray 2009 ZR1 for $62k and sub 8k mile newer versions in the higher $60's range. Are there any years I should be weary of due to problems?

Other option is a newer used ZO6. I have seen real nice low mile versions in the high $60's/low $70's. Price ranges are about the same so that is not an issue. If I found an Indigo Orange ZR1, I would be sold. I am just unsure mainly because the ZR1 **** pit will be very similar to my old modded C6.

Thoughts, opinions or any idea where I can find the unicorn IO ZR1 with low miles??

I am a used car dealer so I have access to lots of auctions and can purchase nation-wide.

If you did not like the base C7 then why would you consider the C7Z?

I struggled with the same question.....ZR1 or new Z06. I made my decision on a ZR1 because I liked the body style better than the New Z06 and more because the value of the ZR1 is going to be greater (in my opinion) because from 2009-2013 there was just over 5000 ZR1's built in total. In 2016 there were 11,543 new Z06's built! Not sure how many were built in 2015 or 2017 but knowing that there was more than double the total number of ZR1's built, in 2016 tells me that they are Not going to hold their value like the ZR1. I found my 2010 with 11,053 miles on it in February and got it for $54,000.00. It is a 3ZR. The New Z06 is a real Bad *** but I opted for the ZR1
Good Luck.

I would start by reading about the overheating issues and the under engineered cooling system on the C7Z for even stock power levels . Its the only real down side to the car. Tikt performance has the fix. Tikt performance C7Z's look straight badass. Many new C7 ZR1 parts should bolt right up if they ever release it which could make it a potent package once the cooling is set up.

Tikt has engineered the best cooling fix for the Zr1's as well if you have the cash and do not mind modifying the bumper. Thats the way I want to go. Here are some shots.

Posting in this section most will tell you ZR1, post in the C7Z section and they'll say C7Z. I have a ZR1 and my father has a C7Z, at 6'3" I don't fit comfortably in the C7Z

I've been in and driven both. If we're all being dead honest, the C7 Z06 slightly edges out the ZR1. Where the ZR1 shines is aftermarket modding on the stock blower (2.3L vs 1.7L is worth some serious HP) and straight line racing, in which the ZR1 is faster, at least thats what I've seen. Around a track, eh, give or take but the Z06 is probably a second to a few seconds faster depending on the track size. The ZR1 is a lot more raw than the Z06 too, the Z06 has a plush new interior (Although being honest I still found it underperforming compared to Euro cars), the ZR1 has no rev-matching or eLSD or AFM etc. It's meant to do one thing, go fast. The Z06 is more of a gray hairs car IMO, no offense to gray hairs that own ZR1s. The ZR1 is a few hundred pounds lighter as well.

All in all, it's a hard choice and I'm deciding on the same thing. The ZR1 is only marginally cheaper now, few grand at max, and has probably lost as much value as it's going to for a while, whereas the Z06 prices are in a literal free fall. Hell, dealers are selling them way under sticker right off the lots. That didn't happen with ZR1s as far as I know...

Also, though the Z06 may be a touch better in the big picture, the ZR1 still gets a bad *** factor that the Z06 absolutely does not get. The ZR1 is still the king, it's pretty funny to watch Z06 after Z06 roll up to a car meet, but then a ZR1 shows up and people flock to it.

Base C7 looked too plain when released and I saw it at the show prior to release, it did not live up to the hype. Z's are a different animal in that they look great (IMO) with carbon side skirts, splitters, tops and tails. You don't really think a base Stingray looks the same as a Z.

You can't go wrong either way.

I bought a 2012 centennial edition ZR1 a few weeks ago. ZR1 is the cream of the crop IMO. C7 Z's are far more common.

4684 ZR1's total, 18,523 C7 Z06's in 15 & 16 and 6413 2017's so far, over 5x the no of ZR1's.

I never said one way or the other. You never fully explained in your opening why you did not like the C7 so I asked. But now that you have I tend to agree with your assessment. The base does not do much for me whereas the Z06 is hot. If I were to ever get one it would be a convertible since I like open tops too which my ZR1 can't do.

If you're going to leave it stock/light bolt ons and just be your weekend cruiser get the C7Z. If you're going to race it and mod it then get the ZR1. I have a ZR1 and my dad has a C7Z both are nice cars, from driving both thats my opinion

In the end only you truly know which car fits your profile best. For me the ZR1 was my car of choice. Bottom line .... don't settle. Get what you want and you'll be glad you did.

to the comment in bold...

F Y I heavy discounting of new C6 ZR1s at dealers started around mid-2010 and continued right until the end of the model run...wasn't uncommon to see discounts from MSRP of 15%--20% (or a bit more)...all had to do with the state of the economy.

I would think it should be the other way around. Leave the rare ZR1 stock and race the not so rare C7 Z06 with sweet built in data recorders!

Funny I shopped hard and bought my 13 ZR1 from one of larger forum dealers. My price was good but nothing like 15-20% so I'm not so sure about that. I do know the 16 Z06's were being discounted 20%+.
