Default 3" revolver fit in hidden compartment?

A bit of a random question, but I'm looking at a 3" S&W 686 for the hidden compartment.

I've heard a snub nose S&W fits which I assume refers to the 2.5" model but I'm just looking for clarification before I pull the trigger. Thanks!

Pull the trigger lol. Rough dimensions for the hidden compartment is 4" x 6" x 5" deep, so I don't think so. The 3" S&W is about 8.2" long, so even diagonally, you will only have 7.8" which will, however, fit the 2.5" barrel which is about 7.5" long.

No, I carry a Glock 43-9mm w/an extra loaded clip without a lot of extra room. The 686 (L frame) is quite a bit larger than the Glock. You can probably fit an S&W 442 (J frame) or similar. It is a 5 shot with a bl under 2".

Simple algebra...
Dimensions of the hidden compartment - dimensions of gun = fit (positive) or (negative) not.

Is that the best place to put a gun for quick access?

What if you pull into a parking lot and shut the car off...

"Hold on, let me start my car so I can power up the screen, get my gun, and shoot you."

I believe the screen will operate with the engine off if the fob is still in the car. If it wouldn't open I would pull the one I carry on my side.

J frame fits perfectly. The 686 will not fit.

Glad I can afford to live in an area where this has never been a concern.

Just thinking about this early this morning at 3am , on a dark twisty road when a lone Kia in front of me slowed to 15mph. when I could I passed, he-they started to flash its hi-beams. Opened the compartment where I keep a non lethal weapon in case they followed. They did not. Got me thinking about what I really need stashed in there.

I wasn't aware any such area still existed.

A Glock 42 and spare mag fit in the compartment easily.

Before using it for gun storage, one should do some "dry (non)fire" practice with an empty gun so you can put it there and retrieve it without muzzling yourself or the passenger, and without getting near the trigger.

As for getting it out in a hurry, I don't. The compartment is used only as a place to secure the piece if I'm required to leave it in the car, which is pretty rare. Otherwise, it stays attached to my person.

With proper tools and some time, of course anything can be broken open. But the compartment, besides being somewhat stealth, looks fairly resistant to Marty the Mope and his smash & grab technique. Is that correct?

FWIW, I would be afraid to carry a gun in my car...I don't trust myself enough.

My Glock got jammed in that little compartment. It was not easy getting it out.

I keep my either an LCR .38 or my Shield 9 in the glove box. No way I'd be trying to get my gun out in a pressure situation from the infotainment compartment.
