Default Running Temperatures

I just bought my first vette, a 2011 GS, A6. it's everything I expected and more. I live in the Phoenix area, and today, it's 86 degrees out this morning. The running temps today are as follows:
Engine Oli: 219
Coolant: 207
Transmission Oli: 194
I stomped on it a couple times coming home from breakfast.

Are these temps normal, and will they go up when it's 110 outside ? All fluids were just changed. The car has 42,000 miles on the odometer. I appreciate any input.

Yep and Yep. The A-6 should track +- 20 degrees of /coolant temp.

When it's 115° here I'll see coolant temps close to 220 in traffic.

What you can do to help it a little is put in a 160 stat. Take half the anti freeze out. Put a bottle of water wetter and refill with distilled water.
That will help you a bit.

temps are normal but i don't like anything over 180 on the transmission you can do the cooler mod on it, i did it on mine and it stays below 150-160 at all times no matter the temp outside i live in south florida its almost 88-95 here everyday and traffic is bumper to bumper

When I had my 95 Vette I had installed a B&M trans cooler which worked great living in Florida. My C6 is running ok for now about 180-190.

Those temps look good, they will rise with ambient temps.

Sounds about right for your outside temps. At highway speeds, my coolant temp will run anywhere between 201 -205. Engine oil temp will be in the low 220's. Tranny temp around 170

Completely normal. Yes they will go up when it gets hot. Car doesn't throw a warning or have issues until ~245.

Even if you hit 220-235 sitting in traffic when it is 115-120 outside, that is normal.

One thing to do out here, is a yearly clean of the condensor and front. The dust/leaves/junk loves to build up in the front of the car and restrict airflow.

Swapping the coolant to a different mix can help, but a stock car won't have cooling issues if everything is clean and running properly.

for mine:
Engine Oil: 210-has gone as high as 233
Coolant: 196 almost always
Transmission Oli: 140 to 190, depending on if Im using paddle shifter or not.
I'm in Phoenix area too, with 45,000 miles.

200-235 is great oil temps. You really don't want it below that. Hot oil works better, protects better.

Where they get hot is sitting in traffic at idle with AC. If you are moving 50+ car should be running fairly cool.

I washed my car yesterday and was looking to do this, how exactly would you do it? Can you go through the front grill area and just shoot a stream of water into there from the outside or should you remove the air cleaner assembly and shoot water out from the engine compartment? Thanks...

Remove the shrouding and everything in front, and take a high pressure sprayer and clean it out. Some people have even built little 90 degree angle adapters to clean it.

Personally, I just remove it. Take it to local shop, they evacuate the freon, I pull the condenser out, scrub/clean it, reinstall, and then they refill it.

If it is dirty enough or beat up enough, they are ~$140-150 on amazon, just replace it. Its 2 bolts and pops right out. Just need to deal with the freon part, so if you don't have a buddy, that can cost a few dollars.

Thank for the info, not sure if I want to remove it, I'll nose around underneath and see what it looks like and then make a decision...

I bought one of those long extendable wands for my air compressor, just blow the bugs and stuff out with it, being careful to not poke the vanes/fins

Anyone put the 180 degree thermostat in vs the stock 186? I still think 160 is too low and was just wondering about other options!

I run a 180* stat.

I see 189-194 coolant temps most the time, depending on rpm and flatness of the traveled road. This would be on flat highhway. I do have a 4:10 diff so my rpm's are some 300 rpm higher than standard in same gear, usually.

On the freeway at say 70 mph I will see 192* at 75 mph or 1950 rpm I will se 189*.

ON a warm day say 95* in stop and go traffic it climbs to 203*. Never seen higher than 205* and that was in Vegas when it was 115* out and in stopped traffic.

BTW I believe the stock stat is 189*. Corrected my if I am wrong.
