Default Drag Racing the A8

I used to put my standard shift C6 into neutral to coast and cool down a bit after crossing the timing line when at the strip. Anybody tired that with an A8 in track mode...

Why bother? The A8 has no heat issues at the drag strip. Runs at the thermostat set point all day long. Might help with blower heat perhaps?

What's the goal, and why Track mode specifically? Just trying to figure out what you're going for...

You don't need to do that. In fact, I'd suggest to just leave the car in Drive and coast through the shutdown area. There's no benefit to putting it in neutral.

As said above, no need to put the A8 in neutral after a run. Let the car do what it wants.

This practice comes from a drag racing old wives tale about not stretching the rods when the engine decelerates. It was nonsense in the beginning and is still nonsense.

It's just amazing how these fairy tales live on and on and are passed down generation to generation.

It's not just old wives tales... I heard the "And the car was so fast he'd tape a $100 bill to the dash and no one could ever grab it" story just last week. Some nonsense lives forever!

You will be better served to open your hood and let it cool down between rounds. Many of us use different kinds of fans to help cooling that way.

I put my race car in neutral and shut off the fuel pump and ignition and coast off the track and restart after stopped. If it gets over 160 we start getting worried. :-)

The C7Z, don't worry about it.
