Hi gents i bought a chrome dip stick for my vette for 10 bucks and threw away the old one with a big mistake .dip stick now shows well over full mark .with the original one it was right on spot with 5 qt of oil .new dip stick is about 19 inches and ecklers original dip stick is 20 inches now if i buy it it ll be even further than full mark .now i guess its the Upper tube size is too small .could anyone tell me about the lenght of his tube on 79 vette? thanks folks

Just went out and measured mine. Numbers matching 79 L-82 engine, and mine is 21 inches long.

Thank u very much for taking time for me now thats something ..i think i ll just change oil and put 4 qt and mark the dip stick then add another qt and mark the full mark since from add to full mark should be 1 qt .thanks

Make sure you either start it up for a 10 - 15 seconds with the 4 quarts, or at least fill the filter with some of the 4 quarts of fresh oil - otherwise your '4 quarts' mark on the dipstick won't be accurate.

Thanks bradley yes i planned to run it little bit .after i replace my oil pan of which bolt is stripped
