Oil consumption report....(for those that follow this stuff..)
I went in today for my second oil change at 3188 miles. My first oil change was done at 562 miles, so I have traveled 2626 miles on this oil change.
I had checked the oil after the first oil change was completed, just to verify they filled it correctly, and they had, it was filled up exactly to the full dot hole. I have not checked the oil since then. So today, before taking it to the dealer, I drove it around a bit, got the oil up to 195* and came home, let it sit for 10 mins, checked the oil and it was still exactly at the same full dot on the dipstick that it was 2600 miles ago...
It literally used NO measurable amount of oil in 2626 miles. These miles consisted mostly of normal around town miles, 8 passes at the drag strip, and probably at least twenty 45-140+ mph highway rolls.. I don't beat on the car every time I drive it but it damn sure has made some hits so.... Pretty happy so far with the engine, it seems very tight.

Mine was the same way. I picked it up at the museum in March 2016 and had the 500 mile change done a week later. In December I had it changed before putting it up for the winter and at 4,300 it was just barely below the full mark so 3,800 miles since the last change and no significant oil usage.
I broke it in as per the manual procedure and it has been on several road trips plus a lot of shorter stuff but nothing under 10 miles per trip. I have an A8 but never let it go into V4 mode.

OH and to mention... the first 500 mile break in was driving it home from the dealer that was 540 miles away so....pretty much worst case scenario for break in.. I even used the cruise control after the first 2hrs on the road.
So...to recap. All highway break in (a no no), multiple highway pulls to 145+ and lots of freeway driving. No catch can or other BS. No oil usage.

with all due respect. going by a dip stick on a dry sump tank is a good way to measure quarts of oil, but not ounces.
unscrew your lid(s) guys and have a look.
they all use at least SOME oil, it is impossible for it not to
acceptable amount or not is a personal decision we all get to make, but don't kid yourself.

I don't doubt for one minute that your knowledge base is greater than mine, but after two years, 8,500 miles and multiple track days my car simply does not use oil; not a drop that I can tell.
Perhaps I'm not fast enough! lol

I just did a 2,600 mile road trip in my Z06 that included mostly freeway driving but a brief bit of track time (touring laps at the NCM). Car had about 4,000 miles on it when left. Using the recommended level checking technique of 175 degrees and wait 5-10 minutes, I topped off my oil level before I left, checked at mid point in the trip, and then checked it upon my return at the end of the 2,600 miles. It appears that I consumed a bit less than 1/2 of a quart during the trip. --Bob

its great to have low oil consumption all around.. my car burns very little as well. but as long as the pcv system is functioning and we are drawing air through the crankcase it is just not possible to not have some amount of oil coming through with it. even with a nice catch can system we still cant get rid of 100% of it
i would expect the same puddles of oil atop the supercharger as everyone else, it just may take longer
usually the most oil consumption (aside from manuf. defect) comes from piston rock (from fuel knock, people beating the crap out of the car on agressive tune ups, higher than stock loading, or both) and or dry sump overfilling

By comparison, my big block uses a qt about every 1000 miles of highway use....(3k rpms).
I was just glad to not see the C7Z wasnt using oil as some have reported....(1/2 - 1 qt in 1k miles)...

FYI. There is no 500 mile oil change required. First change is at 7500 miles or 1 year and if you don't drive much you can probably change every 2 years. I asked service guy on my 2015 C7 and he looked at my oil on dipstick and unofficially told me no need to change.

Nice bump of an old thread. I would 100% change the oil in the first 1k miles though on a brand new engine.

My 2017 C7 Zo6 M7 has 78,000 miles and has always used oil. It varies on consumption. One oil change cycle I will ad 2 quarts. Sometimes only 1/2 a quart. It has never worried me since owing a GT350. I would have to stop for oil before gassing up. It was so bad Ford bought it back.

About 1/4 qt every 2 track days for a 2015 z with 30k miles. I drive my car hard (near 20 track days in the past 18 months)

Which has no applicability to the C7 Z06, the subject of this thread.
