Transmission Replaced
Hello everyone I have a Grand Sport with 1500 miles and my car has been at the mechanic for 3 weeks now. They got the tranmission in over a week ago and it's still not finished. When I go pick it up is there some things I should check specifically for damage during a swap. I am nervous because they aren't answering my phone calls when trying to check up on it.

I'm stationed in Germany. My sister picked it up brand new in florida and shipped it out here. First time I drove it the car lunged forward when coming to a complete stop. The downshift in second gear with the paddles was extremely delayed and very hard. While cruising on the highway my RPMS would jump about a 1000 when the car would shift if you didn't let off the gas it would shift hard into that gear. I took it to the mechanic at 500 miles and they flashed the tcm. Drove it for 1000 miles and no change except for my check engine light came on and the car got stuck in second gear. Took it to the mechanic and they ordered a new transmission. They are a GM certified warranty service center here in Germany.

Good luck with the tranny swap. its not as bad as when GM had to make a removable frame crossmember specially to shoehorn the auto tranny into the c2 corvette; or some forgettable GM econobox in the 80's where they had to pull the engine to change the sparkplugs.
The scary part is that GM is still putting these trashy transmissions out at the end of the 2017 model year, three years into the production. Wish you a speedy recovery of the car, and post videos when you go out on the Nurburgring!

Not an accurate statement.
Actually ALL C2(1963-1967) frames had a welded crossmember that is not removealble whether the cat had a manual or an automatic transmission and the engine has to be partially pulled in order to remove the automatic transmission. This was changed for the C3(1968-1982). The 1968-1979's had a welded crossmember if a manual and a removable crossmember if an automatic. ALL 1980-1981 had a removeable crossmember whether it had a manual or an automatic.

In other news the sky is falling.
Reminds me of a colleague years ago who told me he would never buy a Chrysler vehicle because every time he drove by the Chrysler dealership near his home there were always cars going in and out of the service shop. I told him if he drove by a topless bar he would always see strippers going in and out of the business. I don't think he got my sarcasm.

Where in Germany is your car? Is it a Chevy dealer? If not, they may have very little, if any, experience with the A8 tranny as I don't think it is in any of the Opel models made in Germany. I suspect they are having issues getting it properly programmed as it is a very complex tranny. My car also took more than a month to be repaired in the US but I also had a fuel leak that required both fuel tanks to be removed in addition to replacing my Torque Converter and stator support. I wish you good luck with your tranny. The C7 is sold in Europe with some unique European features so hopefully they can get your car back on the road and shifting properly.

Yeah? Tell it to those of us that had their A8 replaced with 100 miles on the clock. Compare it to the A6 who problems were VERY rarely reported on this forum. Yeah, sure, GM fan boys keep drinking the Kool-Aid that the A8 problems are overstated.

what about the ones we are probably not hearing. Not a menber of the forum. All A8s are made the same. the fact is they are duds.sooner or later. shame on GM for continually selling them. But as anyone with long term GM experiance knows....Thats GM

If your car was manufactured this year you may be okay. Late last year they introduced a third revision on the TC and AFAIK there have been no reports of failures, although it's early yet to make a definitive judgment on it. Keep your fingers crossed.

Or just avoid the poorly implemented V4 mode with its associated torque converter clutch modulation which is soon followed by shudder and excessive RPM slip as the converter clutch wears excessively. Unlike the C7 general discussion forum you won't find the Z06 forum filled with torque converter issues because the Z06 rarely goes into V4 mode; mine never will because either my Range module is turned on or I have the transmission in manual mode.
And for model year 2016, 77% of the Z06 were produced with the A8 and I expect 2017 numbers will be similar.

To be honest, I'd rather have my A6 back. I'm not crazy about the A8. It doesn't shift smoothly when cold. I hate the fact that it drops down to 1st gear when you stop. I find myself having to click into 2nd gear before I take off from a light and I have a tendency to roll through stop signs so it won't go into 1st. I've yet to experience the dreaded V4 shudder and I do drive in Drive mode often (mainly because of the 1st gear issue). I've been told that 17's produced in late 2016 have the new parts. I sure hope so.
PS...on a different topic I posted when I first got my GS, I completed the GM email survey the other day and GM called me Friday to discuss my comments about the A8 and the misaligned rear bumper issue. They encouraged me to take it back to the dealer and have it fixed. I'm still on the fence because I don't want the dealer ripping the back end off to make the adjustment. Has anyone else had an alignment issue and had it adjusted? Here are a few pics.
