Green and black wire at reverse light. Is there a positive and negative?
OK I'm hooking up my reverse camera and due to the way it is set up, I need to tap the reverse lights at the rear bumper. I have a red and black wire and I need to tap the red one into the positive at the reverse light and the black one into the negative or ground at the reverse light. At least that's what I think needs to happen. Photographs of my reverse lights are below. Note you can see the wonderful metal tabs that have been added by a previous Bubba.

I have a green wire and I have a black wire. Not a stretch to get to the black wire being a ground but is the green wire a positive or hotwire?
I would use my multi metre and test by putting the vehicle in reverse, except that my interior is gutted and the shifter on my 4+3 is all apart.
does anybody know if the green is the positive and the black is negative at the reverse lights?
cheers.
The wire on the right is green. The wire on the left is black.
check out those tabs! Previous owners handiwork but at least he fixed it as opposed to letting it rattle.

That is my guess but it doesn't really matter

while it may not matter for DCV and a lightbulb, don't be a "bubba" - wire it properly - green to power, black to ground.
note: from an 85 FSM, but the same will apply to your 86 -
while you're at it, might as well clean up those back-up light lenses -

circliing back to this thread on reverse lights, i cleaned the lenses and repaired some bubba work with plastic welding. they are installed and look factory again.
one thing though they are not turning on while in reverse lol. small problem. i started another thread on the reverse switch in the 4+3 and will be fixing shortly.
