Don't know what made me think about it. I remember back to the debut of C7, online was filled with quite a bit of uproar. I know a few companies proposed rear bumper changes with round taillights, but I have to wonder, at this stage...does anyone officially drive a C7 with a modified rear?

Just curious, wondering what's out there.

I've seen a few kits out there for round tail lights but personally i think GM did the right thing when they dropped the round tail lights. With the angular design of the C7 the current tail lights look like they belong there and is a great design IMHO.

Here's a site that offers a conversion kit. IMHO, it's not nearly as good looking as the OEM C7. The kit instantly makes the car look outdated. My opinion, but that's why it never became popular. Despite all the uproar when the C7 was introduced, the alternatives are not as attractive as the original. After buying a C7, I'll never change mine.

I like the angular look, but I have wondered what it might look like to have the surround for the current lights in the body color instead of black.

When the C7 was first introduced, I was not a fan of the new angular tail lights. I much preferred the round historical lights. Now, especially looking at the kit that roadbike56 pointed us to, I agree that they make the car look dated. I became a convert to the angular lights and agree with 2K13C7 that GM did a pretty good job with the fresh design.

I know everyone's car is their own business, but I really hate it when I see Corvettes that have been modified drastically from the way they came from the factory. Things like C6 or C7 front ends on C5s, or other such body mods that make older ones look like newer ones or vice versa. They never look right, they always look pieced together.

Round tail lights clash with all the angles in the design of the car. They would look glaringly out of place on the C7.

as someone who doesn't care for the tailights, I saw a picture of a C7 with the round tailights and I have to say it was worse. I for one love the look of certain tailights at night, the new cady tailights I like, I just would have preferred a more futuristic look for the C7 tailights. IMHO

That kit makes the C7 look like a Nissan GTR.

I'm still not a huge fan of the C7 tail lights, but I think I got more used to them, and now they look like they fit in more with the angles of the body than the round ones.

At any rate, not going to change them on mine.

I think there was more of an uproar on the vents making the lights stick out. And that was fixed by color matched vents (and never an issue on black).

I think once GM offered that option a lot of complaints died down.

Every generation of Corvette is different. It always takes me a little time to adjust to it, but I always liked the C7 tail lights. I think round looks great on the C5-C6, but they would look hideous on a C7.

The only constant is change-even with tail lights. Previous years Corvettes with round tails look great. But the C7 represents a new day, a new age and a new generation.

There are only 2 pieces of the C7 that were carried over from the C6....an air filter for the cabin and the latch for the roof.

At the end of the day-if you want round headlights, don't buy a C7.

Most designs that push the envelope look a little strange when first released. It's hard to judge them unless you are a professional auto designer (who knows what is coming in the next generation, also).

Sometimes you get an Edsel or similar, but often you find after a few months or a year you can appreciate what the designer did, and why. I think that is the case with C7.

BTW, if you're interested in such questions, long time auto designer Robert Cumberford does a monthly design analysis of a new car in Automobile magazine that will get you some insight into what sorts of things the pros are considering.

When the C7 was released I was surprised to see the tail light change. Round had seemed so much a Corvette feature. I liked the change, it seemed to go with the car. The C7 has a look that shows a no nonsense attitude. front, back, anyway you look at it.

As for round being "Corvette" well, lets look at that. C6s had big beautiful round tail lights and we loved them. The C5 had oval rather than round. Probably close enough for most people. C4s made in 1990 and later had "scround" lights, square with rounded corners. The earlier C4s had round. As did the C3s and C2s. The C1s had 3 different tail lights, only the 61 and 62 had round. So round was popular throughout Corvette history but it wasn't always present. (forgive me if I've made an error. I'm no expert)

I wonder what tail lights the C8 will have.
