I'm thinking a new base '17 for $50K is good enough.

I'm thinking a new base '17 for $50K is good enough.
Dealers near me have base manual C7s for $50K even. I've driven the Camaro SS but for $10K or so more, I'm thinking a base C7 might be the better choice.
I'd just be using it for general driving. Not going to the track. I would think it would do everything I need it do in base guise. I guess I'll drive a base and find out. An aftermarket exhaust is all I'd add to it.
Any other base C7 owners out there?

You're absolutely right, and it's a lot more more than "good enough."
The base C7 is arguably the best performance car bargain in the world. I have a Z51, but only because when I was purchasing, I found exactly what I was looking for at base car prices.

Not a C7 owner yet, but have driven them and previously owned a 5th gen ZL1 Camaro. I'd take a base C7 over a loaded Camaro too. I'd drive them both and then make your decision. Over the years the gap has narrowed between the cars, but the Camaro is a pony car while the Vette is a sports car. Of course, you're posting this on a Corvette website, so expect bias towards the C7.

Mines is not totally base but nothing wrong with a stripper C7. Still makes the same power if you ignore the alleged 5hp you get from npp. If anything, maybe no npp means the stock exhaust is rather tame, but sounds like you got a plan for that.

$40K for an SS?? Surely you jest..
I think most people here will tell you that if you don't need back seats, the C7 is twice the car.

I won't lie.. I did toy with the idea of getting a Mustang GT with the Stage 2 Rousch package. 710hp and 610ft lbs of torque and it costs about $40K all in ($40K includes a brand new Mustang GT and the Rousch Stage 2 package). Comes with a Ford backed warranty.
But I really preferred the handling, looks, and dynamics of the C7 more.

I'm in SoCal and buying out of state is really a no-go for me.
CA DMV-requires 7500 mi before they let you register a new car out of state. So I'd have to drive it around with temp tags for 7500 mi. For me that could take 2 yrs.
Also with cost of shipping and/or driving it across country...the savings come down to about $1K or so.

Was that Mustang on the dealer lot that way? What dealer has that for $40K?

Roush partnered with Ford so you may be able to find local dealers who can match the deal.

If you do a factory order though an out of state dealer let them know to order the California sticker.

The story was posted on Jalopnik awhile back, but here you go:

All C7s come with 50-state certification. The CA sticker is on my '14 delivered in MD.

Not true, you can bring any 50 state legal car into CA as mentioned in other posts. The 7500 miles is what CA uses to determine if the car is "new" so they can rape you for fees. Motorcycles are different, you can actually be precluded from titling a motorcycle in the state if it has under 5k miles, beyond stupidity, but this state is beyond Effed up.
Ok so looks like as long as delivery is taken in CA, it's not considered an "out of state" vehicle and as long as it's a 50 state vehicle, which sounds like it is, then it's just the shipping fee that has to be taken into effect.
Thanks.

First, I think the 1LT base car is an excellent buy. Second, I think you'd be wise to heed the advice and check with the dealers mentioned re a California courtesy delivery of a new car. Last, while CA dealers tend to be a bit snobby about their courtesy deliveries (another way of saying they tend to elevate their prices, but what else is new?), some will do it, and you will be better off all around. Your choice, you're informed, your car.

A 1LT for 50k is a good deal and will meet all your needs. You can continue the search for that ultimate deal or grab the deal you have and enjoy it.
I prefer to buy locally and not bother looking out of State for that ultimate deal.
